...is amazing in handling. It's a 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si 4WS ...that would mean it has FOUR WHEEL STEERING. The only production car ever made with four wheel steering.

In 1987, Road & Track published a test summary that shows the 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS out slalomed every car of that year, including all Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches. It went through the slalom at 65.5 mph, an amazing result for the time. For reference, the 1988 Corvette took the same course at 64.9 mph.
The thing is awesome - at low speeds the rear wheels turn opposite of the front wheels, but at high speeds it crabs... so the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels.

And did I mention insane parking lot turn radius? That thing pivots around a friggin dime :D

It's fun to take it on the s-turns and cloverleafs... it just wants to grip and grip and not break loose. A lot of fun factor for a cheap amount of money. We were having fun tearing up the cloverleafs today :D

i knew what you were talking about, i always wanted one, but they would be a maintenance nightmare. doesn't the 4WS only work under a certain speed?

Yeah...below a certain speed, for safety issues, of course. It's a very weird feeling but amazing how small of a radius it covers at low speeds. Fun little toy. :D
I've been riding around w/ Jace. He seems to like it :D

I'm enjoying this car very much...a very nice first car. I'm not a car enthusiast but I can always appreciate a fun little car! ...and it pulls pretty well too. :)
....now to learn proper shifting :p

edit: oh god....yet another car thread....sighs.....lol

Hell yeah Angel. One of my friends has a 90ish, prelude typeSH, same deal as your car I believe, just newer. It is definitly a different feeling. Sweet car!

Oh, and the nissan 300zx also has four wheel steering. :D tsk tsk Jason.:)

I think what Jace meant to say was...
"it is the only four-wheel steering system on a production car that is entirely mechanical in its design." Haha...I really have no idea, but that is just according to Wikipedia

Actually I thought it was the only car sold in the USA with mechanical 4WS. Apparently the Mazda 626 had the option... The only other being the 300ZX Z32 Twin Turbo. I had no idea! :)

Wikipedia has a list of cars with 4WS... BUT, most of them were only sold in non-NA markets (Japan) and many only had the option. Pretty interesting...

i forgot the MX-6/626 had the option, it has been a while since i read the manual for the wife's care, but after reading that wiki entry i remember now!

A couple years ago my friend bought a Dodge Stealth that has the 4-wheel-steering and he really likes it.

Yeah, I should have mentioned which model. It was only the 2 seater twin turbo I believe. I've only seen ONE 2 seater ever and it's up here oddly enough. All the rest I've seen are the bastardized 4 seater.

The Twinturbo model has the HICAS, which is a limited form of 4ws. Most guys disable it though, if I remember correctly they say it's a bit twitchy especially at speed.

Yep, I know two people that got into trouble with their 4ws 300zx's. Granted it was THEM that messed up for not knowing how the system works and what to expect from it, but I don't think they would have had any problems if it weren't for the 4ws.
