AND COLGAN Q400s IT IS!!!!

Actually.

So, was it a check airman or a captain? You said a check airman (twice in that paragraph, actually), then a captain. Which is it?

Well Captains at are Colgan are also Checkairmen.
The act in both roles, flying captain on the usual scheduled line.
Then when needs arrive crew scheduling pencils in IOE or a Line Check for another crew.
Not sure if this is a common practice at all comapnies, but I thought it was.
Sorry for the Confusion, perhaps I should have been more clearer.

I think the only reason people are asking is because we had a problem earlier with people claiming to be someone they weren't. When those people impart information or guidance based upon people they really aren't, it tends to bring into question EVERYONE, even those who are actually southernets DC-9 series first officers.

It's a really easy dragon to slay just by answering the question.

Yeah Doug, that's a good point I think your talking about Integrity.
Which it appears that everyone is questioning mine.
Maybe I'm posting more than I should, it's just that my excitement is exploding all over right now. I'm looking forward to all the great and wonderful things that are about to happen at Colgan.
I am more than willing to answer any questions, but I will not single out pilots to whom I fly with as the origions of sensitive company information.

How do I put this nicely...I can't; no ####, they don't make first officers check airman anywhere. So to say that a check airman is a captain is kind of unnecessary and makes it look like you're back peddling.

So what were his initials?

Just curious what's with the 4-stripe Avitar? Didn't some of the guys on here just bust a gasket regarding this? Just seems odd that you'd put that on there (mind u I'll be upgrading in the same time-frame) given the circumstances.

No, wait first officer's are not check airmen, don't think I said that anywhere???
I'm a just an FO on the Saab nothing else, not a checkairman funny idea though. Actually shot milk out of my nose when I read that.

But seriously, the captain I was flying with is also a checkairman, though he was not flying as a checkairman on that day. He was filling in as a basic line captain covering the open time.
Our checkairmen don't sit around all day doing nothing or administrative work waiting for an IOE pilot or a random line check.
Colgan has over a dozen checkairmen scattered throughout the system.
The checkairmen are active pilots, which is the most effecient because it keeps them in the loop of the company and aircraft.
This is a very common practice at Colgan, and anyone who works there should be able to attest to that fact.
No back peddiling here.

Checkairman out of ALB? What where their initials?

I want to take a look at the book myself!

ColganFO, what are the initials of the checkairman that was out of Albany?

The reason I ask this is we DO NOT have a checkairman on the Saab OR Beech that is based in ALB. We have one that is going through the training process, but it is not completed for him yet.

The other thing is, that IF what you are saying is true, why have none of us that are based there heard about this from him?

Once again what are the initials of the person that showed you this?

Jtrain609, you sound an awful lot like Seggy.
You wouldn't happen to be the same person would you???
Just curious.

How fast in a Q400 on final? Last I heard EWR banned props from coming in there. I doubt CAL would really want to slow down their operations there any more then they already are.

While I don't have actual numbers, I can guarantee you the q400 will be able to maintain a higher speed to the marker and then dirty-up and resume a "normal" approach. I know in the Saab we can maintain higher speeds, longer on any approach than the jets. After all, we have those giant barndoors hanging on the wings.

And, the q400 has RJ climb performance, so I think it'll be a non-issue all around.

Yeah...probably up to 10 it's pretty close to the RJ (we do about 240KIAS and about 2-2.500fpm) after that I don't think the 400 would accelerate to the foward speed of the RJ (290ish) but probably have a similar climb.

Baronman and cruise are both correct:

What about me I was correct too...
Go me...
Everyone here loves to label me as a liar, but I guess I showed them....Go Me.
Good things for everyone all around at Colgan..
Upgrades.....Pay.......QOL.....You name it.
This is the place to be,
Does anyone know were I can get a copy of a Q400 Flight Manual so I can get a jump start on studying???

I just read the last 2 posts by those peeps, if you said the same then you were also correct. I just happened to be reading the q400 website this morning since I don't know much about the aircraft itself. Cruise and Baronman both mentioned the climb characteristics, which I also happened to notice this morn...nice graph on the website.

Yeah I was talking about the annoucenment itself.
But thanks
Awesome stuff:nana2:

Let me give you a good example of a 'check airman' rumor.

A check airman told me that we were going to purchase jetBlue after emerging from bankruptcy.

No sh*t GI, he really did and was serious.

Go you. It's clearly the place to be if you can bypass seniority to upgrade. But pay and QOL? Not to knock Colgan at all, but from what I understand it's a little behind in the pay department, and I really hope you all can work a better payscale for the Q400.

You weren't, by any chance, jumpseating from Boise to LAX the day before yesterday, were you?

Hmm...let's think about this.

Pay - below industry standard
QOL - decent, folks living near their base enjoy being home at night
Upgrades - improving but still suck at present for older FOs and if folks nervously leaving keep going they will have no choice but to slow upgrades down again for FO shortages.

So, place to be, I dunno. There are sure places a hell of a lot better and still places much worse. Remains to be seen.

The Q may be a nice plane but I don't imagine ever getting to a high enough seniority to fly one while I'm still working here. So I'm not gonna waste my time drooling over it.
