An Increasing Trend on Jetcareers . . .

Actually I agree with you, but it does get tiresome when 3 people in the same week create posts asking the same question.

I personally will answer the question, because I figure why not. It's much more helpful to give the answer than just say, "Already covered".

I was so close to answering in this direct way, but I did not want some crazed ex-Marine hunting for me in Vegas.

It's not what you do, but how you do it. In that sense, here's the deal: If someone new posts a question that's already been answered ad-nauseum, a reply could have a link to where that thread, with a simple "it's over here", or "you might find what you need here". There's nothing wrong with that. There's no need to slam dunk someone for simply asking a question, but pointing them in the right direction is fine.

Ain't no such thing, my friend!

I think I'm the one Asian who is relatively technologically inept!

People should've been on JetCareers when it first started in the first place! Then they wouldn't be having to ask the same questions over and over again!!! HAHAHA>>>>> TOTALLY KIDDING.

I've said in a post to 'use the search function'. It's been because I know the subject was discussed, and I point them to other threads if they want some info right away, and they can read those other threads and maybe get some info they're looking for without having to wait for others to respond. Also maybe someone responded in the other post, who may not be around anymore or may not see this new thread to offer their insight.

I've never meant it in a way that was meant to belittle a person's question, just that the other threads may have something to offer.

Another trend is to nicely say " I point them in the right direction" since this issue has been called out, but many of ya'll are trying to brush off what you may consider a stupid, elementary, or etc. type of question. I am not directing this at anyone in particular, but ya'll know who ya'll be

Sometimes it's easier to just answer the question than to do the search, find a suitable thread, cut the link, reply and paste the link.

Sometimes to the point of doing a search, and posting mutiple URL's for the past threads.

So? What's more useful? Links to threads with immediate, and multiple answers to the question, or one person's answer?

It's not that hard to use the search feature. Right up there between "Main Index" and "My Home" is a button named "Search." Hit it, and type. It's not rocket science.

There's a lot of good info. on here in previous threads. The thing is, some of them are EXTREMELY repetitive, and many people (myself included) probably don't like to go into detail on repeated threads like they may have on a previous one. I would venture to say that sometimes you'll find better info. by doing a search, and get it quicker.

Not only that, but we've "lost" several experienced posters who may have contributed something to a previous thread, but no longer come around to reply to the new thread.

PFT, the college degree debate, headsets, and crap like that get beaten to friggin' death on here.

DO A SEARCH!

is this that difficult? if you don't like the look of the question, don't answer it.

(oh crap, did I just loose some Doug-stars

Just don't answer those questions!!

Sky7 said it best - if you don't want to answer a question that's been "beat to death", just go to the next post!

As a flight instructor, I'm asked 32 times a day, "Uhhh. . . so, what's density altitude again?". If I just said, "It's written in 25 different books", I would sound kinda silly . . .

Why would you sound silly? IMO, there's nothing at all wrong with saying, "well Jimmy, I don't know. What is density altitude? Why don't you look it up and then come explain it to me." Guaranteed they'll remember THAT over us just spewing the definition verbatim.
