An ending is a new beginning, a new beginning is a ending

In my valedictorian speech in school 4 years ago, I said "A ending is a new beginning, a new beginning is both the end of something and a new beginning of the next chapter" and thats what exactly what is happening to me, I am both excited and terrified.

After getting involved with some start ups that never made it off the ground I got a call last week from a company on the other side of the country and was offered a position with the company as Base Manager/Instructor/Charter pilot, flying 172 and the navajo on the recommendation of a friend of a friend. I was told the job was mine if I could be on location within 1.5 weeks.

So here I am, Sitting in Vancouver International airport waiting for my red eye flight to Toronto and then on to the new place tomorrow morning. My car is being shipped (much cheaper then driving it cross country), Looking at places to live in Sunday but got a cheap hotel room in the mean time, got a rental car while waiting for mine to arrive, etc. Everything is in place, waiting for me, a steady stream of work at my own base, etc but its across the country waiting for me. My family and friends understand and couldnt support me any more then they have and for that I am truly grateful. I have had to say good bye to friends and family that I have known my entire life, to the province I have lived in for my entire life, to go to a new place and start a new job, I have one pilot buddy in the same town whos going to be getting me involved with the regional SAR group. It is both exciting and terrifying.

I am going to the new job, new province, starting a new life across the country from everyone who is important to me, but thats what we pilots are- mobile, its apart of the job. This job will also give me the connections I need to break into my dream job- Medevac pilot. I have had friends do the same, go east, fly out here for awhile and get their start then come back out west to home, so we will see that this new adventure brings.

Thanks for listening!

Matty

Nice work. Best wishes to you and your new endeavor!

Good luck Matty. I too took a chance like you about 4 years ago. I was a lowly old CFI working at the local airport, living with my parents. A start up single pilot 135 job came across the wire. I applied, interviewed, and was hired. I moved 8 hours away from my family, friends and everything familiar. I didn't know anyone or anything in my new home, but I knew it was a necessity for the advancement of my career.

It's all about the adventure. Live it up and have fun.

Or, to put it far more eloquently: "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." -- "Closing Time" by Semisonic

Congratulations. You show great dedication to an aviation career. Leaving the west coast of Canada for the east would be hard. I'm in California looking to go back north to end up on the west coast. Our paths may cross some day. Best of luck.
