The sole Antonov An-225, the world’s largest cargo aircraft, was destroyed by fire at Gostomel Airport during the Russian attack on Ukraine.
 
Big bummer. I remember seeing this hog come into Miramar a few times when I still flew there. It was always a pretty impressive sight. I'm sure I've told the story before, but I remember one night setting up to land on 24L when the -225 was on 2-3 mile final for 24R. It looked like an alien planet was entering the atmosphere.....or a star was landing. Pretty cool bird, sad to hear

Prior to the invasion Germany offered to let them ferry the plane there for safe storage. The company president refused, but when the war started he ran off and sought refuge in Germany. The Orcs probably paid him off.
