Here is my first attempt at uploading some pictures from a recent flight. Me and my girlfriend took a quick hop from Ames, IA to Des Moines and back. Wasn't the best weather for sight seeing, but the winds made for a smooth flight.

nice pictures, i have some fond memories of flying around that area. I took my private check with Hap Westbrook out of AMW, and did my training down at Ankeny. Is hap still around he was probably in his 80's when i did that 8 years ago! First time i ever operated the hand held mike was with him because he refused to wear the headset... good times!

No, he died almost a decade ago. His daughter still owns Hap's Flying Service, though, and his grand daughter is the office manager. His son-in-law is the head mechanic, and his grandson-in-law is the chief pilot. The legacy is alive and well.

Great photos, to the OP! I did all but about three hours of my PPL training in Trip-Nine (I did 1.2 in 440 and soloed 512WW, which they sold years ago). If you get a chance, tell Diana, Chris, and Jeff I say hi...I worked as a line guy for them for about three years during college. How many times did DSM Approach ask if you had the Alleman towers in sight? :)

Nice pics. Brings back memories of flying between IKV, DSM, and AMW all the time. Great places to fly.
