AMR Loses Over $500M

.......

Now, here's something interesting. CNN did a run on the fact that gas is $4 a gallon in the SF bay area. They mentioned people parking their SUVs, taking the train and generally not driving as much. Auto sales are down a lot except for hybrids. So, assuming this is not a local issue, that would mean that demand for oil is going DOWN. So, in a true supply and demand system, the price SHOULD go down. However, b/c of all the speculation in the commodities market, my bet is on the price still climbing, no matter how much demand drops.

.......

That issue has to be hit and miss. At least here in Minny, people are not parking their SUV's on a big scale. All it takes is one drive to the park and you will see. I was at my son's ball practice last night and every other car was some suv: suburban, tahoe, etc......Everyone keeping up with the next. While the area where I live is more affluent (not me, I am in a townhome) people are still filling up the big trucks. I could probably walk over to Target right now and count multiple large SUV's.....:panic:

True. Although I have seen the resident Hummer population all but disappear. :) I guess being the outcast in high school instilled in me the ability to not care what other people think about me.

"Lookit 'em. He drivin' that ole Altima. Why don't he get a REAL car, like a new Expeedeeshun?"
"Um, how much are you paying a month for that? Oh, and when you have to make the decision of putting gas in your car to get to work over buying food for your kids....let me know."

Sadly, that was a real conversation. Two things garner you status in this part of the country: the car you drive and the church you attend.
