Amflight or Regional (eagle)

If you had a choice would you go to a regional like eagle or Ameriflight? :dunno:
Do ameriflight pilots go into a major after a few years or do they still end up at a regional?

Probably depends on the candidate! Seriously. I flew with a few former Amflight guys that went from the Metro straight to Southernjets. And I've heard a few stories of guys leaving Amflight for the regionals.

Make your own success and I wish you luck!

Kinda doesn't matter cause you're not going to a major after a few years at either place.
You have to have an entirely different attitude for flying freight. It isn't for everyone.

Ameriflight for sure. What's the point of this thread If I don't have 135 IFR minimums yet. blaaaa :dunno:

Some AMF pilots do make it to the majors. Lots of them end up flying corporate/fractional. A few end up flying in other countries such as for airlines such as Cathay. Plenty of them have gone to fly for air ambulance companies that pay really well also. From back to flying multi pistons for good money all the way up to flying 747's, the next step is really all over the map after leaving that company.

It's all a personal prefrence. Do you want to fly with someone, or do you want to do it alone? The airlines aren't for me, but for some people, that all they have ever wanted. So you need to ask yourself, what is my end goal with this new adventure.

BTW, people get f* worded from both sides of the coin (121/135) so don't think that because you're going to a 135 operator, it won't happen to you. It very well may.

You would be lucky to go to a major in 20 years in this market, going either way.

To a certain degree you're lucky to go to a major in any market. However to make it sound unattainable is simply not true (not saying you did mojo6911). It's easy to say "XYZ airline got 10,000 apps for 400 positions so it's impossible!" The simple truth is that I would say it's easy for an airline to throw out 75% of the applications in 15 minutes based on application spelling errors, flight time errors, omissions, etc. It isn't difficult to see who really wants the job and who is just filling out the application.

Bottom line, if flying for a major is your goal meeting the minimum requirements is only 10% of the process. The other 90% (the most important part IMO) consists of networking and doing something besides just flying the line. So that being said, whichever route you take, get involved in some other capacity outside of flying a schedule whether it be in training, safety, pilot mentoring, etc. If you do you'll put yourself in the shorter stack of apps once you apply to a major. Wherever you go, align yourself with positive forward thinking people and your networking opportunities will increase.

If you have offers congrats! Both are great options!

No they end up at regionals and everything else in between. The problem though is that Eagle isn't that much better if you want to go to a major because you won't get that PIC for a long time. So I guess your job prospect out of Eagle, if you don't stay there to upgrade, is anyone that does not require PIC.:o Tough decision for sure, two very different companies.

Amflight unless you have SJS. I know several have gone directly to the majors, regional, medevac, corporate, fractional. For myself I'll be going to Delta this fall when Doug gives me the special decoder ring in Vegas this fall.

I choose freight. Good choice for me but it's not for everybody. I like being alone and doing my own thing. Sometimes it sucks that you have to learn most things yourself or with little guidance, but it is rewarding. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of all the airline politics. Every once in awhile I look through the Airline Pilot's section on here and I get bored. That's me though. Everybody's different. Good luck!

If you go to eagle you probably wont upgrade for some time. That might extend the wait for the majors. But the upside is your flying turbine aircraft in a crew environment. Personal preference really..hopefully the pilot demand will go up quickly in the next few years and you wont have to stay to long at either.

When I went to the Flt Ops Vegas convention earlier this year, I sat in on the Eagle presentation and talked to their recruiters - a ten year FO and a Captain. I have to say that I was impressed by how cool and nice they were, especially compared to some of the other potential employers there. I didn't have their minimums and they knew that but they still took the time to talk to me and other's giving us ideas how to advance. I was impressed. They didn't have to do that but they still took the time.

Also, the presentation implied the potential for a possibly faster upgrade time in the near future. They listed a few factors. (1) they're expanding, (2) retirement age is coming up and their are a lot of retirement age people in Eagle. (3) Whenever American starts hiring, a ton of guys in Eagle, qualify for "flow through."

I'm not saying go Eagle, just giving you the info that I have. Peace:bandit:

Well, I'm leaning toward Amflight. It really does seem like a great company. I like the schedule and flying boxes sounds better.

Announcing your plans is a good way to hear God laugh. Do what you think might allow you to stay sane, and build a life. Mortgaging your present against your future is a fool's errand.

Amflight. If I could somehow skip the paying my dues part (ie flying a navajo for the same or less than I make now) I would defect and request political asylum. If I could get a run in New Mexico I wouldn't care and would be willing to fly a cri-cri, though.
