LONG LIVE THE 1900!!!!!!!

freight dawgn aint for everyone.

HA!

Seriously, I have MAD respect for the freight dawgies in here.
ESPECIALLY those at places like Airnet, AMFLIGHT, Flight Express. I got a lot of buds there.

I suggest ALL to freight dawging it before going to a regional. Or at least fly a 1900.

I was just screwing around with my previous post in this thread!

Just to let you know I'm not a freight dog, but that comment was strange, especially from you. no harm done.

In fact, interesting you say that you recommend freight before regionals because that is what I want to do. Well see about the 1900....:)

You're right, it's not for wussy's.

Probably the first time I have ever been right then!

Anyone know who picked up Alpine Airs 1900 contracts out of Dallas???? I figured it was AmFlight. That was a sweet gig for a couple guys I knew.

The DFW AMF base DOES have one 1900 run. It is an outbased run from SAT-LRD. Out and back everyday, Tues. morn through Friday morning. That guy works 4 days a week from 5am till 9am. He'll never leave.

Not sure about Alpine 1900's. Haven't seen any at DFW, so I can't speak for them. I know we used to do some Alpine mail runs in our E120's, but those runs went away about a year or two ago.

I see why. There were 2 alpine runs. Both left DFW and 1 went to LBB the other to AMA left at 8pm back at 1am mon-thurs for 55k. They lost 'em last fall.

Yeah UPS or FEDEX, and don't forget Jessica Alba to come home to, with dinner and laundry already done!

Before a regional? No offense, but I wouldn't leave this job for a regional.

I agree. If you want to go to a regional, why would you waste your time getting the 1200 hours required for Ameriflight. All of my friends that are going to the regionals are getting on with well under 1000 hours. Plus, why go from flying left seat to flying right seat and more than likely take a pay cut in the process.

I've looked at several options for my post military career. If I decide to go the regional route (which is a slight possibility, not preferred) I would very likely build up the 1200 hours and fly for a freight company for a year and then slide over to the regionals. (putting on helmet for inbound rocks) -- here's how my mind works....I'll be 39-40ish when I retire from military so I'm going into flying as a second career. For me, the extra time flight instructing and flying 135 for a year would make me very sharp (so I hope anyway :-) ) and the experience of single pilot ME/IFR would be invaluable and would be more beneficial to me, personally, if I were to become a 121 captain for a regional a few years later. I would be better for it than without the previous experience. I would much rather fly 135 than 121 at this point, but living in OKC...I haven't heard of much in line of 135 ops in the area. I'm sure they are around, but I haven't been exposed to them. AMF does have that run here in OKC, but I can't live on Navajo/Chieftan wages forever.
I'm looking at the 121 route for the fact that as a three year captain (if upgrades are still happening as they are) I can be making about what I'm making now with 18 yrs in the service and my wife and I can continue to live in OKC in our nice home and a comfortable lifestyle. Also, OKC seems to be pretty commutable for the likes of Skywest/ExpressJet. Eagle would be right up there, except for upgrade times. I'm trying to factor in quality of life, $$, upgrade, commutability (if there is such a word)
I can save and put away some $$ to help offset the low wages for a couple of years so a "lateral" move for me isn't a big deal. All I want to do at this stage of my life is to fly for a living (including being a proficient, trained, competent, and confidient pilot)--I'll be happy in an airplane in whatever environment I end up in. With all of the moving I've done in my career, I'm looking to be able to plant roots and live in one place for a while--that's where 121 ops has its advantage of being able to commute.
Still have a couple of years to decide, but it (my future) is always at the forefront of my mind and drives my wife crazy--sorry hun :-)

Thanks for listening/reading my ramble....

I just saw a job post on 350 impyling that they were looking for 1900 capts at a variety of bases. Anyone in the loop on which bases they are hiring into? Just curious............ :)
