AMEs in CLT

Hey everyone, does anyone know of a good AME in the CLT area? I need to disclose a past medical issue and I want to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Thanks

I'm curious as well. I live in Concord, NC. I haven't been to an AME here in NC yet, so I, as well as you, really don't know who to go to that is worth the time and money. I have an appointment with Dr. Nicholson. He does only aviation medical exams, and he's located at KJQF. The appointment is set for Nov 26.

Hey doc, do you advise asking questions before the appointment about the way he practices, etc...? I can tell you one thing though, he's got his PPL and Instrument rating, so by just assuming, I figure he knows a little more about aviation than the standard IM physician who knows nothing about aviation, but is a designated AME on the side. I will let you know more about Dr. Nicholson after the exam.

I agree. AME's who fly at least have an attraction to aviation. That does not mean that some of them are as pleasant as a hemorrhoid though:laff:

:laff:

I think a valuable resource would be a website with AME ratings and comments for all regions. For example, there is a website ratemyprofessor.com where you can view students comments about college Professors prior to registering for the class. If we had this for AME's, it would be a great asset in selecting the best AME for an individuals needs. We need more dedicated AME's like you doc around the globe.

Howdy,

I've used Dr. Nicholson. (704) 795-2883 for the guy who is looking for an AME.

First and formost he is good and also very through. His medical background is surgery.

He is a pilot and flies a 310 - I think.

As far as his exam, he uses all the standard stuff execpt for the eye testing. He does not use the machine that we are all used to looking into. Instead he uses a combination of other items that he told me came before the machine.

Lastly, he will only take checks and cash.

Just found this link on FAA.gov: http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/

Lastly #2 the AME who did most of the US Air people, Dr. Charles Lutin closed his practice and accepted a commission as a full bird colonel in the Air Force.

Hope this helps.

:panic:

I used Loren S. Kane, MD. Nice guy. Was just for an uneventful Class III though, so no info on any out-of-the-ordinary issues.

Hey was Dr. Nicholson the type that wanted to go the extra mile to get you a medical? Right now I have a SI medical, and he seemed knowledgeable about what I needed to bring him, but overall, is he the kind of AME that wants to make sure you walk out with a medical?

Pietrantonio,

Dr. Nicholson is tough, knowledgeable but very fair. As far as going the extra mile, I believe he would do what is necessary and he also knows how to navigate those channels. Regarding your SI medical I would take any and all documentation to support your position. I took him a copy of my SODA letter. Probably would not hurt to touch base with him to further review your situation.

Let me know via PM if I can help.

:hiya:

I've been to Dr. Nicholson, he's cheaper than the other doctors in Charlotte. He's VERY thorough and will make you cough.

Dr. Al Hudson is about 15 bucks more, but is very pilot friendly if you know what I mean.

I used Dr. Nicholson for my last first class physical. I found him to be very thorough but also very fair. He is also a pilot. I believe he flies a Baron. He did not strike me at all as the type of doctor who was trying to find a reason to fail you. I would definitely recommend him.
