Saw a couple of AMF newhires at Lubbock the other day. They seemed a little bit disgruntled already, and they shocked me by how much AMF is now paying including retention bonuses. Man, if I had that much when I was doing UPS freight I'dve ...well, probably bought a lot more video games and other crap I didn't really need, but what else do guys in the early 20s do?

The has always been there. You used to have to hustle for it, but it was there. Back in 2008, I was pulling 60 grand on the metro. I lived like I still was making 26000 (other than increasing the quality of beer I drank) and was putting away a decent chunk of change. AMF 401k plan wasn't too bad either.

It's still sad you had to work your butt off, and that salary is for a captain of a type rated airplane that you fly by yourself.

I wouldn't necessarily say I worked hard for it. I just had to volunteer to do TDY work. At the time, I was TDY to CVG when they were flying Ad Hoc. It was a 3 weeks on and 1 week off schedule and I was flying maybe 30 hrs a month. The rest of the time I was sitting around. Those were the days!

No. Highway was slightly better with a 6th gear, but city was terrbile with the 6 liter V8. As for fun, they're both great in different ways. I really thought I'd miss the torque more than I do, but the Saabaru compensates by being smaller, lighter and more direct.

Plus it's way easier putting my 2yo daughter in the back seat of this car. :)
