Getting rid of the Navajo eliminated lots of that variance but it's still a crap shoot on what you get that day, and whether or not it works lol.
 
A150K, should I brush up on how to do an ADF approach? I haven't done one in a verrrry long time.

They're probably not going to check you on them in the sim (they didn't to anyone in my class), but if you're going to be based somewhere that is served solely by a GPS and NDB approach, you may want to brush up on them (pretty sure PDX is the only one. None of the airports served from ABQ have NDB approaches and I think the same may be true for PHX). That being said, it is my understanding that most PA-31's do not have working ADF's.

Some of the airports served during peak by the PA31 out of PHX are NDB only, at least they were 2 peaks ago when I was there.
 
The only reason ABQ is staffed is because that's really the only major piston base left. Everywhere else is all turbine so those will be more revolving doors.
