Has anyone been here recently? If so how was your experience ( were you rusty? Fresh? How long/$$ did it take) .. Looking to do the cfi academy. Thanks for any insight.

I'm looking at the September 22, 2015 class, so I have the same question. I visited their facility and it looks pretty good. The only slightly negative I noticed was that their simulators are really simple single monitor PC powered things.

So I have the same question.

As with any flight school, this place has its pro's and con's. I joined November 2015 from a different flight school in Denton to finish up on my instrument rating all the way to CFI and CFII. During my instrument training things were smooth sailing, I managed to get my rating in a relatively short time. During my commercial training however, there were few speed bumps; weather and maintenance for the 172RG. I joined the CFI and CFII academy in March 2016, and didn't get my commercial license 2 weeks into the academy, and I just finished both CFI and CFII recently.

I don't have much to complain about the CFI academy, it's a great program for what you're paying. Just be prepared to spend a little bit extra if you're not proficient flying in the right seat. You'll be flying with relatively new instructors initially, some fresh from the previous academies before getting the OK to fly with a 2 year instructor for a sign off for the checkride. The size of my class was bigger than usual, 20+ pilots and trying to get scheduled for a flight was almost impossible due the the maintenance issue we had to deal with at the time, so bring your A game whenever you get the chance to fly. Some of my classmates got signed off early on because they came with experience flying in the right seat, and some had to do extra flights. Those who were signed off relatively quick were the ones who are time sensitive as they came from out of town. They got signed off and went back to do the checkride at their own base airports. For the ones who were local, you might feel like things are dragging on sometimes, but keep pushing and talk to the admin and dispatch to get things done asap.

The instructors who teach the class are all knowledgable and have experience teaching the academy. My friend who went through the academy at the Pompano branch told me things were much more stable there as they have much more experience with the CFI program, and from reading the threads on here I believe that the Pompano branch would be a better place to do the academy. I had a wonderful experience training at Addison, considering the hassle I had to deal with my previous flight school. I managed to finish my instrument, commercial, CFI and CFII in less than a year.

About the simulators, they're just training devices and as long as they work and serve their purpose I don't see anything wrong with them.
