American Airlines pilot found dead in his apartment...

If you didn't see them there, you'd see them trying to write a check in the line at the supermarket for their 6 pack of Mountain Dew and beef jerky.

Whats wrong with that?!? the check might bounce but at least I got my jerky and dew fix.

So, I find it very curious that the CNN headline leads with the words "American Airlines pilot found dead...".

What does his job have to do with anything? If he was a sales clerk, small business owner, pizza delivery guy, would the headline have ran the same?

It sucks that a guy is dead, I just find it interesting that his job title lead the headline.

I presume it's to drive traffic to the page.

"Man found dead" -- happens all the time.

"Man found dead at XYZ Airline with 12,000-plus pilots and 25,000 flight attendants, etc", there are probably at least 30,000 ad exposures guaranteed right there of higher-than-average income eyeballs.

You haven't been paying attention. Anytime a person employed as a pilot gets mentioned in the news, it is always mentioned that he is a pilot for such and such. Wasn't there a story not too long ago about Jet Blue pilots and a taxi cab. And wasn't there another story about some airline pilot running around naked?

The reason the pilot's profession is mentioned is because the media loves stories about the lofty (so to speak) being brought low. To paraphrase Herodotus, the media does not suffer presumption in anything but themselves.

DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS SECTION...

You'd get to read things like this comment from a jackwagon that calls himself "beadlesaz"...

For those of you who think pilots are poor: check the average salary for an experienced pilot with a major US airlines. Then determine that amount in relation to what rest of Americans average. No, pilots may not be rich compared to Bill Gates but they are compared to the other 90% of their countrymen. Another interesting bit of information to find - exactly how many days per month this pilot flies or is on standby. While you're at it find out how much vacation the pilot accrues. And, find out what percentage learned to fly in the military - courtesy of the taxpayer.

Probably from some guy that "washed out" of AOCS.....

You do see headlines like "doctor found dead", "attorney found dead", "bank manager found dead", etc. Pilots are not in the same category as a lot of jobs, it is considered a bit more prominent.

Yet pilots are paid less than all of the above.

:confused:Almost as sad as the primary topic of a thread about a tragic homicide is the commentary, although the editorial by the OP lead us down this road.

<-----just as guilty:hiya:

It's sad you grossly missed the point. You led yourself astray...

See MQ and Doug's posts above.
