American Airlines pilot arrested for failing breathalyzer

If any of you guys have a problem, get help before it comes to something like this. Sad to see.

Had a friend of a friend who was berating these guys over this. Calling them all sorts of profane words. I did my best to make him feel an inch tall. He seemed like the guy who has the "it'll never happen to me" attitude, until it does, and then can't figure out what went wrong.

I think it was supposed to be a humorous "quip" of sorts.

Eddie Murphy's aunt wasn't really named "Bunny" but eeet funny because she fat.
Nice blast from the past, @Derg!
But she was a Bigfoot, Gus!! ;)

In light of this being a common interview question, did the rest of the crew get in trouble for NOT reporting him, calling the CP, calling pro-standards, refusing to fly or making him call out sick? They did pull him out of the cockpit, right? So the captain and flight attendants must have talked to him or smelled alcohol and done nothing? The picture of him in handcuffs was from a pax on the flight he was about to operate IIRC.

Just curious
Those are trick questions. Answer appropriately! ;)

"I took his kids fishing.......WTF does gooeny-goo-goo mean Gus!?"
Ah, rats, you beat me too it. You must have run across this thread 4 months later, too. Curses, foiled again. But as stated to Derg, nice historical perspective. :)

That's what scares me, especially when the questions are usually about "you smell alcohol" and my sense of smell sucks. Dude could probably have not showered and slept in a fish market all night and I'd have no idea.

Who doesn't like Canada?

Yeah, here we go again. A lot of us like to drink. A fair number of us like to drink a lot. Drink what you want to, live your life. If you don't want to get fired or worse, don't show up to work drunk. If there's a question, there is no question. Call in sick. Don't get painted in to a corner you can't get back out of over a sick day or even a rug-dance. This isn't a "this guy is an unprofessional jackass" post at all. This is a "there are a lot of ways to get pranged...some of them you don't see until they've happened...this is one that you have control over...so don't get pranged in this particular way" post. If you drink alcohol at all and fly airplanes, you already know that part of the job is that sinking, hateful feeling when you have to put down the bottle. Embrace that feeling. You don't have to like it but you'd for damned sure better get used to it. Now, everyone, bottoms up if you're not flying tomorrow.

Thats what I'm trying to get at. What if you're the captain or FO who might not smell booze on the other pilots breath, assuming they are fit to fly? Other pilot gets in trouble or is under investigation, are you on the hook for not being aware the other pilot shouldn't have been flying?

Other crew members have nothing to worry about if they see or smell nothing. As a previous poster said.. Alcoholics are very good at hiding it.

Certainly if you have a genuine concern, speak up and there should be no penalty.

However, you shouldn't report someone out of spite or other emotion toward them. This isn't high school.

I bid away from them now, especially in the winter time.
Canadians or Canada...? Some Canadians have assimilated into tithe US pretty well, some even flying for Major airlines and have become military officers... Not naming names of course...

Seriously though, you need to bid Canadian overnights during the summer. The closet I come, is Plattsburgh, NY. I agree though, Canadian winters sucks. But so to do the Midwest winters.
