Alpha Flying/Planesense

We don't have ground power anywhere we go (almost exclusively small, uncontrolled fields), so the standing orders are "don't leave the standby on". Of course you're quite right about the Garmins, but it's still not the seamless efficiency of either A) Steam (already done) or B) An FMS (two punches, let's go). Seems like the worst of both worlds, to me. And yes, you're quite right, the plane breaks A LOT. Usually not in terrifying ways, just little irritations to deal with. With that said, it flies nicely (little heavy in the roll for my tastes), has excellent performance, lands like a dream, and is very capable for the mission we have for it.

I like the roll control on the -47. I also fly a Series 5 that flies like a tank, but it does climb well because it is 400 pounds lighter.

The -47 can be flown with your fingertips, nice and light. I don't think the PC12 is over automated though. Yes it has a lot of automation compared to other planes in it's class, but I think the panel is perfect. A combo of steam and glass, with a basic GPS and moving map to give you better situational awareness. Also as was said before, with the KLN90b you can just use the standby and load your flight plan, not sure what you mean by "the system doesn't have memory". I always load up the flightplan(s) prior to any pax even showing up. In fact you could potentially load up to 25 flight plans, which I regularly load up 4-5 at a time if I know our schedule for the day.

I've yet to fly an NG, so I can't say from first hand experience yet, but I do think that it's a bit overkill in a single turbine IMO. I kind of view it as having a G1000 with dual 496s on the yoke in a skyhawk, however the guys I know who fly them love it, and I'm sure when I get the chance to fly one I'll love it too.

*shrug*. I don't know what routing they're going to give me until they give it to me. If it were a steam machine, I'd just have the departure procedures out/freqs in. Twirl a couple of knobs while they unload the patient, and it's blastoff time. It's probably just an effect of having flown with an FMS, but I'd rather have Real Glass or No Glass. To be fair, I don't get to actually fly the thing that much, so I might become faster/more efficient in time. It just seems to me that it's all the PITA of a glass airplane with none of the user-friendliness. In my mind, though, steam or glass. Pick one.

Commuting can be tough, as I know of a few guys who lived more than 2hrs away, and it can be difficult. I was living a little over 2hrs away for about 2 months after starting, and in all honesty, it was hell sometimes.

One thing I really do like is the variety and the airplane. The airplane is amazing and can do whatever ATC needs, whether it's 220kts or 85kts. And never knowing where you'll be that night is something that I love. I really like the small town airports in the middle of no where that we go to, and right after we'll be at a major class B airport.

Any questions feel free to PM

Just the kind of flying I like, I'm short 120 hs, I'll keep an eye on the company for the time I reach 1200 TT. I think I could really take my first shot here in my way back to flying. I'm a little concerned about commuting though.

Don't you still have nav 1 and green needles, ya big Nancy boy?

Listen, no one is going to convince me that the thing isn't too automated, got it!??@?!?!?? LA LA LA LA, I can't HEAR YOU!@

You just need a few more flights in the plane and you'll have it airborne in no time. If you can get a Beechjet off the ground in under 15 minutes, you can get the PC12 off the ground in about 2!

Well, part of the thing with the beatchjet was you could put a GPU on it. But I'm sure you're right. I mean... "I can't hear you!"

Never know when they're gonna get there. Ridiculous (IMHO) that the systems don't have memory, but there you are. Besides, even if I could load the flightplan, I still have a relatively long checklist I can't even start until we're turning.

This is what the copilot is for?

As for over automation i totally agree. I fly the citation x and have flown the -9 and -10 PC12 as PIC. I "rode along" in an NG to help someone with the FMS, as the NG and the X have roughly the same avionics sytem. IMHO the NG avionics system is way to complex. If and only if the NG had an APU this system then it would be great. I think I would be passing through 10k in my old KA200 before the NG was finished with the checklists and tests.

A/flying seems like a great place with good people. A good friend works there. They are getting a 135 certificate? If so this would change the trips quite a bit.

Citation X is a beautiful, sexy machine. How you deal with the sort of people who must get in the back of it is beyond me, though. The beatchjet was bad enough, but to attempt to countenance the number of Goldman-Sachs types that must get in that thing is beyond me. You're a better (or at least more patient and less homicidal) man than I am.

Also: No copilot. One man show. Just the way I like it.

One day, someone is going to STC the -47 with a G1000 and an NG engine, and PC-12 Nirvana is going to be reached!

If I ever fly anything with a G1000, you are authorized to shoot on sight. I have Standards, just don't tell the women.

Edit: yeah, I know I said the same thing about the PT-6. But that was, uh. Different. Somehow.
