Aloha Airlines co-pilot was arrested for allegedly being intoxicated

Greeat.
I bet you x-1 (where 'x' = the amount of Aloha pilots) just checked their seniority numbers.
If I have an adult beverage, I use "12 hours prior to me having to wake up" as a 'last call'.
So if I've got to wake up at 7am for a 8am van ride to the airport for a 9:15am departure, I'm not touching a single drop of alky-hawl after 6:59pm -- and never more than a couple with food.

you can bet your a$$ that if i had a sweet gig like aloha airlines, or any paid flying gig for that matter...alcohol would be a thing strictly for my house on days i wouldnt be flying for a very long time. there are so many of us out here that would kill for an airline job...and jacka$$es like him take it for granted.

i had a pilot say he drank a beer with his lunch on reserve, i had to put him on rest,
I also had a ready reserve say he was "kinda tired" over a recorded line so i had to release him from his trip and put him on rest too
I can go on.....

There is no excuse for drinking while on reserve. That would get you in big hot water over here. If you are too fatigued to fly, you should call in sick before the assignment.
On the other hand, thank goodness for unions and contracts that protect us from a hostile screw scheduler....otherwise they would be expecting us to pick up the phone on our off days and calling us during crew rest.

Im a pilot too i wanst being sarchastic with the "GO ALPA" comment...yeah that pilot had to report to the chief pilot and had to meet with our in flight dept

I was shocked to see another post regarding another Commercial Airline Pilot arrested for allegedly being intoxicated while attempting to perform his/her duties as a pilot. First the two America West pilots and now Aloha .. what's going on these days. I can understand that pilot's are still human beings in all but we all know the rules stated very clearly in the FAR's and it just gets to me when I read these kind of articles. I've always thought of Airline pilots to be very professional and dedicated individuals but it just appears sometimes a few are not. As a college aviation student with about 240 flight hours, I've still got a long road ahead of me before even a regional pilot job but hopefully these kind of incidents will just stop happening. I would do anything to be in the right seat of an America West or Aloha Airlines airliner these days. Thankfully the pilot was apprehended by Oakland police before he attempted to before his duties as a first officer on that flight and not to mention the safety factor either.

Ah! Well not anything my friend .... but I'm sure you get where I'm coming from. The road to becoming a professional pilot is a long one as they say, I just hope I never come across a pilot attempting to be PIC or SIC on a flight while under the influence of alcohol.

Ahh! My initial thoughts as well, "anything"?!
But I know what you mean. Keep in mind that there are lots of people that know most will do darned near "anything" to get to where they want to be in this profession, and may just have their eyes on your wallet. Be careful!

Can you say, "I'm really stressed out and ill because of all the alcohol and medication I ingested due to my emotional fatigue?" Just wondering so I know what NOT to say.

Yeah as doug was saying, god forbid anything happened to my plane they would have the conversation played back and they would notice that he said he was "kinda tired" before the flight, scheduling just tries to cover their own backs....I know im gonna get s**t for saying that so let the comments begin...Just remember who releases you to go back home to see your wife...Crew Scheduling actually helps alot of pilots out...at least I try to and HAVE

Got no problem with that until it gets to the point that you start lying to pilots....hopefully that doesn't happen. We have the union to back us up....schedulers probably have nothing.
I was once doing hot PDX duty. It was a good deal for a west coast guy in that it was Monday through Friday and the next week off. We were all based in Louisville but lived in Washington State. We always held our breath on the last day....technically, because of the type of duty we were doing, we could be called back to Louisville for Saturday as we had availability for that day....nothing beyond that. This one day we call in and the scheduler told us we needed to deadhead to Louisville on the outbound flight and didn't release us. Didn't give us an expected trip, just said he needed us in SDF and made us get on the jumpseat. When we showed up in Louisville a few hours later, we go to scheduling to see what's up and the guy, in all seriousness, says "what are you guys doing here"?. There was a shift change in the schedulers and the guy that called us in had gone home. There was no need for us to have been called in....the guy just did it because he could and there was nothing we could do about it. We then had to jumpseat back to the west coast and wasted a whole day of our time off. Never heard another word.
You never forget something like that.....
