Hi everyone,
I joined this forum several months ago. This is only my second post, however. I have been extremely busy during the past month and a half in training to pursue my private pilot certificate. I started training in 2003, when I was active duty in the military. I have flown sporadically during the past five years. Due to financial and scheduling issues, I never got the chance to finish.
I am currently enrolled in American Flyers in Morristown, NJ (MMU) in their "finish-up" program. I have been flying about four times a week since May. I have had numerous flights cancelled due to weather-related problems. This past week, I have flown three solo flights. My first solo flight was on Tuesday in which I remained in the pattern at MMU and made five landings. The second solo flight was on the following day in which I practiced maneuvers. During this flight, my landing at MMU was flat. I bounced twice during the landing. I managed to recover, however.
My cross-country solo flight was yesterday where I flew from MMU to Sullivan County, NY (MSV) to Dutchess County/Poughkeepsie, NY (POU) and returning to MMU. The flight was uneventful. My landings at all three airports were better than that of my previous flight. I received valuable ATC experience in which I requested flight followings from NY Approach along my route. I also communicated with ATC at MMU and POU. MSV is a non-towered airport.
I have completed all of my requirements for the course. I have to prepare for the checkride, in which I am looking forward to. I plan on pursuing aviation as a career. I am very happy with the progress that I have made with American Flyers, despite its costs. After obtaining my private pilot certificate, I plan on starting training for my instrument rating.
For those currently pursuing flight training or who are thinking about learning to fly, be sure to prepare and study hard. Take your time and use your checklists. I am having fun and have learned a lot so far. Take care. God bless. Good luck to everyone.
