Good Article Here: Almost cancelled, the Boeing 737 has endured 49 years

Morton knew he had to show customers that the plane could fly in and out of rough airports. Looking for a nearby airport to show off the plane's capabilities, he came across a 4,000-foot-long grass runway in Hope, British Columbia. On Sept. 13, 1972, with a camera rolling, a 737-200 painted in the company's black-and-mustard-brown livery touched down in Hope, the plane's nose wheel digging a deep rut in the ground.
“I believe the Hope authorities billed us pretty heavily to get the ruts out of that airport,” Morton says in the marketing video shot that day.

What is that red stick on the tail? I've seen one on the back of a Citation. Does is measure takeoff and landing pitch?

Technically the Airbus 320 was filling the niche that Boeing left because there were no real plans to replace the 150 seat 727. The 757 was supposed to be the medium cabin work horse.

I thought we'd be flying way more exciting stuff than we are in 2016. Yay, subsonic tube with engines… So exciting.

Meh. They make money or there wouldn't be so many of them. As a (former? Current?) caravan driver surely you can appreciate that.

Current.

And I can't really argue with this. The Caravan makes the 737 seem like an F-14 in comparison. :(

I've spent many touch and goes at that airport. CYHE
Got what would be a Canadian tail wheel endorsement there.

I'd say that airport, despite being 4000' is a one way only for ten likes of 737-100.

Couple of my coworkers fly 737-200s for Sierra Pacific here at TUS.

Whereas I used to take for granted seeing 737-200s and such around here, with America West and SWA having flown them so much around PHX/TUS, now seeing one takeoff/land is a stop-what-I'm-doing moment. Same for when the corporate 727-100 comes in/out of here, or the cargo 727-200 does.

Everyone is a 737 fanboy until they fly the A320.

On an unrelated note, I flew a bird today that is less than a month old. And my mic jack didn't work.

I like both of them. The Airbus is one of more quiet cockpit/cabins I've rode in, even the older A310.
