Wasn't sure to dump this in the Lav or General Population but I saw it announced on Rumors-Dot-Net and figured I'd come over here to discuss...

I actually had to look OGS up on the map to see where it was. I know Allegiant is known for second-hand airport service, but this one took the cake. I'm still scratching my head - having seen this area of the world (PTD/MSS on the 110) it gets funky in the winter. Also, taking a look at the maps, it doesn't look like there's even a facility at the field? Maybe I'm missing something. Also - 6400' snowy runway in a full Airbus will surely take a hit, if they're planning flights to Lauderdale, no?

I don't intend for this to become a "dump on Airline" thread. I'm just interested in the airfield they've chosen.
 
It looks live Cape Air provides service so some facilities may already be set but performance wise........cant see it.
 
I went to school up there and was ART based for 9K for a year and half. You won't believe the lengths people will go through to escape the North Country in February.

From OGSAIR.com - the airports website. - at least theyll have water service!

Pretty sure Southwest runs a hub out of a little airport in Chicago with more snow and shorter runways.

Yes indeed. Looks like they intend to pull folks from Ottawa since its a straight freeway drive from there. I occasionally fly out of Buffalo and have run into Canadians flying from there to Vancouver, out of all places. And on airlines such as Southwest. Strange, but they say it saves them an arm and a leg to drive to from the Toronto GTA or Niagara region to BUF, then catch a flight on an airline such as Southwest through Midway to Seattle, and then catch the train or bus to Vancouver, back in Canada. They drive to USA to fly to Canada through the USA. Have run into Canadian folks who do this quite regularly to save money.

I'll be darned. I knew LGA was close at 7000' but I didn't think to check MDW - 6400' down 22L and 100 feet longer on 13C. Yowza.

You know, a long time ago Northeast DC9s served New Bedford, MA, Keene and Lebanon, NH, 727's served a 4'800 foot runway daily at Key West ... the world was a strangely different place way back in the dark ages of my youth ...
