Yes, we are once again a nation of bed-wetters:

[ QUOTE ]
Someone from the school alerted authorities when Hajaig attempted to have his instructor upgrade his flight rating when he wasn't yet qualified, he said. Emmett also said Hajaig attempted to have the flight school accelerate his training schedule.

[/ QUOTE ]

Man who raised suspicions near Atlanta located in Britain

I attended a flight school that one of the hijackers trained at. My (ex)CFI really hasn't gotten over his role in the events, and he still takes a cautious look at all his students. I think this example is a little extreme, but no one wants another 9-11. Better safe than sorry, no?

[cheap joke]

Which flight academy's direct-hire program or equivilent was this?

So, if I go into my flight school and say I want to fly twice a day for seven days a week (thus ACCELERATING my schedule), that makes me under suspicious? Maybe the dude thought his CFI was holding him back to make more $$$? I agree that we don't want another 9/11, but I also agree that we don't need to jerk a knee at every weird thing.

I'll play devils advocate. We don't know the individual, nor the employees and situation involved to say this was a knee-jerk reaction.

I'd like to give the flight school some benefit of doubt that they have worked with this guy enough to read whether his request for a certificate he hasn't properly completed was sincere or suspicious.

Because many of us on here are quick to claim "overboard," we immediately assume knee-jerk reaction instead of thinking, "hey, this flight school worked with this man, and because of his actions and attitude caused the flight school to be concerned."

I say we give this alert the proper attention that it deserves, which is to at least take it seriously.

I don't think it was knee jerk at all. Look what the guy did, he fled the country. I'm sure he is innocent......

If they got suspicious of me, I'd flee the country too!!

Crooked bastages...they'd probably send me to Gitmo and call me Ethiopian. . .

How could I argue??

[/ticked off American Citizen]

Fled or left?

Even if he fled, considering our track record of holding people without charges for 'national security', I'd probably cruise too!

We're thinking the same again, Doug....

I know...the TSA and FBI will be asking me for my papers by Monday. . .

[ QUOTE ]
The Atlanta Joint Terrorism Task Force and U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement said Hajaig was in the United States illegally. He had no means of income, used calling cards to communicate with associates and fled to Britain possibly when he was alerted to the task force's interest in him, Emmett said.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
Despite being an illegal alien, the FAA issued Hajaig an official pilot’s license in April 2002 and he had obtained single-engine and multi-engine ratings. FAA now says the license was revoked in November 2002 because he had not been examined by an aviation physician.

[/ QUOTE ]

And now you know......... the rest of the story.

Whatever this guy was getting trained for, being a professional or legally licensed pilot doesn't seem to be on the list.

It sounds like FAA and flight school both dropped the ball but I'd blame the FAA more. Seems like the immigration status of a foreign flight student would be routinely checked now, and oh yeah, whether he had a medical.

Shoot, half of the people living in Arizona, figuratively, are living here illegally!

And before the FBI raids my house, that's angel food cake in my freezer that I was using for a chocolate fondue over Valentines day, it's not "yellow cake uranium".

And I'm not from Niger, I'm from Fresno!

Lloyd: I never see you in person. Are you really that "dark"?

a lousy joke:

New FAA Ramp check:
FAA inspector: Can I see your certificate, medical, passprt, TSA / FBI / CIA clearance notices...err, birth cert.? Because you do not look like your descriptions.

Well I've been complaining about bed-wetters for a long time. But I was thinking more about the type that was so worried about hurting someones feelings that they don't think a character like this rates even a visit from government agents.
smile.gif

It's one thing that we find out after the fact that some inside the FBI had raised flags about the strange training activity going on at some flight schools before 9/11, and were ignored. But back then you might have legitimately said, "What, some foreign nationals get control of commercial jets, use them for weapons, kill thousands of innocents, decimate the airline industry, naaaah." But to do it now would be the ultimate in PC sticking you head in the sand. Sounds like the flight school was right to contact authorities, if a little late.

Don't you watch 24 for god's sake? Now we've got to start looking at F-117 pilots a lot closer.

well this particular school(if im correct) has a history for having hijakers from 9/11 going there, does this mean there is some kind of paper being passed around terrorists saying go to this school!

That's because it's THE best goddamn school in the entire U.S.

I'm a little hypersensitive because I've got a friend who is an airline pilot with a middle east background who was targeted for 'extra scrutiny' by some crews for the 'better safe than sorry' attitude.

Just the idea that he could be thrown behind bars indefinitely, without a trial and have a democratic society shrug and say "better safe than sorry" is pretty darned unpatriotic.
