Alaskan rentals?

Hey guys-

I recently came across a video of basically a guy taking a C-170 around Alaska with a couple Huskie's landing at random strips.

At the end of the video he mentions catching a flight back to ANC so that he can basically return to the "world."

Seems like a good time. Go rent a C-170 with a "guide" and get to explore some of that part of the world.

Any of you guys know anything about operations like that?

All of the rental places that I am aware of specifically prohibit landing off airport. Heck they even prohibit landing at airports like Bold.
I'm not even sure what the use of a small airplane is in Alaska if you're limited to airports. I do my best to at least stay away from anything paved.

There are a couple guys here in south central that offer what you want where the instructor comes with. The schools that offer tail wheel and off airport stuff would be the place to start. Alaska floats and skis, acme cub, Arctics air academy, here's a guy on lake hood, and probably a couple others. Give them a call and see if they could set you up.

You might as well do a float rating. I did mine at Moose Pass, I hear there are a couple good ones in Talkeetna. It will be far more adventurous than just renting a 170.

I've been thinking about a float rating, but it wouldn't be useful really outside of the rating. There are no float planes around here for rent solo and I can't get any of my deadbeat buddies to buy a floatplane. ;)

What does practicality have to do with it?! Is the trip just for fun or to time build. There is a guy in Talkeetna who has some Pacers on bushwheels and floats so you could do both.

Edit: here is the website http://www.alaskafloats.com/

Someone just put a pacer on floats into some trees in Talkeetna. Not sure who it was though.
