Alaska opens new SAN pilot base

I'm gonna guess they got this data directly from the company file of registered commuters.
I don’t think so. I have to expand the radius to 50 miles from JNU to pick up me, even though I walk to the terminal when the weather isn’t horrible. I can expand it to 100 miles and it doesn’t pick up my buddy who lives by the cut off of runway 8. Same thing for commuters to SEA, shows none within 25 miles even though one of them lives right across the highway from the TDZ of 26. Like I said, it might be a unique feature of our sparse population and remoteness especially if guys are using PO Boxes and zip codes are getting parsed weirdly, but I can guarantee that my buddy Adam is registered as a commuter so it isn’t just going off the commuter registry.

There are plenty of areas near SAN with nice houses well under a million. SAN is also a waaaaay easier drive than LAX for most people in the lower IE and southern Orange County. I’d guess the radius is over 100 miles for an easier drive considering traffic.

I would say San Clemente is the line for SAN. Anything north of that LAX makes more sense because of the 5 bottleneck both directions at Oceanside/Camp Pendleton. Lower IE is also a mess because of the 15 as well, maybe not as slow as LAX at certain times but not far off. At that point, people living in those locations will go where seniority is more favorable. That won’t be known until SAN opens and we see the flying and seniority.

Do you use another address for what is on file for your employer? Is that what is causing the issue. It seems like it should just be based off of a zip code and that would be accurate enough.

Every time I speak with the SAN flight attendants they all tell me about their commute and how even though they left the house X number of hours early, they barely made it to work.

I'm sure there are some less expensive communities but as you've already mentioned getting to work reliably at all times of the day, which is a requirement of long call convertible reserve, isn't really that feasible outside of a certain radius of SAN.

Nope, and I have lived at the same address for over 10 years. My buddy out at the cut may use a PO Box, I don’t think they get delivery out there, but the zip code for the post office should still show within 25 miles and certainly within 100. It’s possible that whatever database they pulled from still shows him SEA based, he bid down to SFO to escape reserve hell and credit 100+ every month (I think he’s nuts and heading for the airline pilot divorce doing that but that’s another topic)

Like I said, minor quibbles, but the data is objectively inaccurate and likely out of date.

Yeah it sucks that there will be no clear picture of how this bid will turn out until it is emailed out by Trish. I heard that the number of downgrades "isn't that bad" but for me that wasn't terribly reassuring.

Even if that zip code address thing was accurate, you still don’t know how the bid will turn out. That’s because you can’t predict pilot behavior. Flica had a “what if” award function where it could look at a snapshot in the moment of time to see if you could hold what you bid. But our current software/ability does not.

Just chill dude. You’re gonna stroke out.

It is cold enough here that I'm actually concerned my pipes will freeze which for my house is rare - it's just that we've been cold for like a month. I've got a space heater in the downstairs bathroom desperately working over time to make sure I don't have to deal with a massive bill.
I think I already told you about the safety relay failing, then how I troubleshot and fixed it before we could get the plumbing company on site. Then, the pipes for the heat froze at a spot between the addition and the main house that someone forgot to insulate. This has happened before, but until I was there to see it I couldn’t figure out where the bad spot was. An electric heater in the crawl space and then a chunk of insulation stuffed in the gap took care of that. I’m just glad I was home for both of those, Mrs really wants a wood stove now 😬

Other airlines give a lot more information than ours. Why there is a near total lack of transparency is lost on me. I'm not really freaking out since between this bid, the next bid, the SLI and parking all the airbus products there is zero chance of seniority progression for the next 3-5 years. Would have been nice to have some extra money to invest when the bottom hits on a couple of assets I'm interested in in the fall.

I like my pellet stove. But it's really hands on and kind of a pain to get the pellets.

Don’t you still need electricity to feed the pellets into it?

Sure do. Even though I have a backup generator the thing shuts off during the time the transfer switch kicks on and gets the pellet stove power again. Although I think I could hook it up to a battery back up, similar to what I have my wifi router on. That would make it seemless and run through a power outage.

Since I installed the pellet stove I also brought natural gas up to the house and I'm fairly happy being on grid. The furnace is on backup power as well. Every house project has been backburnered until I have a clear income going forward.

Umm. In the bottom 5 Captain is definitely NOT clear income going forward, even without a reduction bid.

As a First Officer, live like a Flight Attendant; as a Captain, live like a First Officer.
