Alaska Hawaiian Merger

Heving been through a merger, it’s (a) cool watching this one from the outside and (2) entertaining to see people fight about what’s going to be.

A merger isn’t about building a better system and rationalizing the companies, the BOD is producing shareholder value for current and future investors. If it builds a better airline, it’s a welcome, but perhaps unintentional consequence.

My own was “You got debt, we got debt, if we band together we can renegotiate better terms with minimal market overlap so it’ll get approved. Luckily, we were off the heels of a hostile takeover so they were able to leverage that “Yay go TEAM!” spirit to build enough motive flow to launch off some speedbumps rather than be impeded by them like the USAir + AA + HP party.

Have fun, but getting regular peeks behind the curtain at my own airline, flight operations and their expectations are generally answered with a “Thank you for sharing, now go color” :)

You been through one merger, this is my third one son. I can use son, in this case right? :)
