Alaska Airline flight cockpit lockdown

If you guys put 1/2 of the effort you did into grammar, into understanding the world the world would be a much better place.

I certainly hope airlines don't start training crew to recognize strapping boxes to yourself as an acceptable thing to do on planes. Whose to say the boxes could not contain something dangerous? If they need to pray at a certain time, then they need to make sure they are not on a flight scheduled to be flying at that time or ask to be rescheduled. Strapping things to yourself on planes should not be accepted (even if it's part of your religion).

You're the only one here who called people "retards." Don't deflect this on anyone else.

I'm not deflecting anything. If you guys were so busy catching the difference between you're and your and bothered to learn about some of the things going on outside of the inner circle of WASP, incidents like this wouldn't happen. Hence the reason why the terrorists are as Mr Sheen so frankly put it: "winning!"

But oh well lets dive into the retards remark shall we:

Can anyone recall an incident involving Jews blowing themselves up, Jews blowing themselves up on an airplane, Jews blowing stuff up with a hijacked airplane?

The true irony is that for all the hair trigger wannabe retards out there the only group that has been serving Jihadists healthy doses of whoop ass is the Jews.

And possibly the even bigger irony which you guys seem to enjoy so much is that similar to the TSA no one was thoughtful enough to distinguish the passengers in question as Jews and let them get on with their harmless nonsense.

"Oh look those guys have beards! They must be terrorists!".

You should re-read a few post back, as the questioning part had already been covered.

Minuteman had posted something from the Alaska Airlines Facebook page in response to this situation:

So we've got 3 gentlemen disregarding a Flight Attendants directions to remained seated, making other passengers uneasy (which does constitute a disruption in the cabin), being vague about what they're doing when questioned, and finally having 2 people in the Lav (which is already small) and one blocking the aisle. For me, that right there has raised a few red flags and the final action of being in the Lav with a guard, that's well within the FA's rights to call the Flight Deck and the Captain to place it under Lockdown and alert authorities.

I don't think it was covered. Like I said, it's a two way street. These dudes should have been more forthcoming about their actions to the people around them, and we should all be a little more tolerant and aware of other cultural practices. If someone jumped up to grab a bible and cross during turbulence we'd all chuckle about the nervous nelly. If someone grabs anything that might seem maybe somewhat Islamic then we're convinced their terrorists. Unfortunately, the world we live in dictates that if you belong to a religion that's anything but Christian, most of America probably thinks you're an agent of Satan and any of your strange practices will probably be followed with at least a beheading. So in a public place you're probably going to have to tell people in charge that this is a benign daily ritual that will be over shortly. The rest of us probably need to read up on all the silly rituals that different religions practice.

And I agree with the previous poster that transubstantiation is a very bizarre ritual when viewed from a non-indoctrinated eye. I mean really, this is my body, this is my blood. That would be more appropriate in a teenage vampire novel than a mainstream religion (fallen Catholic here).

I agree with you, but....

First, I'd like to make a disclaimer that I'm not antisemitic., I'm anti-Zionist as it pertains to the current location of the Jewish homeland. IMHO, the 2 biggest reasons we have a problem with Islamic terrorists is our demand for Arabic oil, and our support of Israel. I think history has demonstrated that the majority of the world has a big problem with Jews and would probably like to kill them (check out the film Constantine's Sword to witness the Catholic Church's history of antisemitism). So I definitely think the Jewish people need a place to go if another Hitler rolls into town. My only question is, why does it have to be in Israel, especially when a very large percentage of the country is essentially atheistic? I think places like AZ, Indiana large swaths of S. America, would be far more suitable locations to establish a country than Israel is.

Now, besides the location of Israel the second biggest problem Israel has is that it's essentially controlled by the Orthodox members of the religion. They're inflexible and govern more on dogma than pragmatism. Which pisses off the arabs and causes them to attack Israel, and when that doesn't work they come after us. So in a way I do place some blame on Orthodox Jews for terrorism, even if they're not committing the acts.

No, I think it's more of a "these guys are willfully disobeying the flight attendants and doing something that really should cause alarm". I don't care if you're white, purple or green...if you're on my plane and doing something like this that WARRANTS attention, and you still continue and escalate the situation, you're damn right I'm going to lockdown the cockpit and have the authorities meet the airplane.

My job is to protect not only myself, but my fellow crewmembers, the passengers and the plane. If you're doing something that threatens any of those, we're going to have problems. The gentlemen in this case were allowing themselves to become a threat by A) no obeying the FA's with regards to the seatbelt sign, B) by being vague and not answer fully what they were doing, and C) by having more than one person in the Lav with a guard in the aisle.

This isn't "rocket surgery", if you're wanting to hold a prayer on the airplane (which, I have heard you can do if you explain what it is you want to do)...just talk to the FA's and let them make a PA for people so they won't be alarmed.

Like I said, it's a two way street. These dudes should have been more forthcoming about their actions to the people around them, and we should all be a little more tolerant and aware of other cultural practices. .

I agree with you here, it's a two way street. If the FA's feel comfortable letting them pray on the airplane, then there should be no reason why they can't. Those wanting to pray in a manner that might cause concern for other pax should be forthcoming and honest as to what they're wanting to do.

Me thinks you need to take your hatred of religion up with the catholic church.

I don't seem to remember that when Moses led the Israelites out of Eygpt, they wandered in the desert for 40 years and ended up in AZ, Indiana, or S. America. Maybe they want their homeland in a place where it has historically always been.

Terrorist can always pretend to be praying Orthodox Jews and catch everybody with their pants down.:dunno:

Additionally if this would have been a Muslim who had gotten up to do one of their daily prayers towards Mecca the passengers, the same thing would have happened and you guys would have been perfectly ok with how the crew reacted.

I'm still perfectly ok with how the crew reacted. It's best to be cautious than give the benefit of doubt in the types of situations in my opinion. Crew members can't possibly know every religious practice of the 100's of different religions in the world. It's just not pratical.

Is there anything worth learning outside of the inner circle of WASP? I Think not!

It's not nice to call people names..even more so when there have in fact been terroristic acts of political violence committed by Zionists and Jews..just as members of every other religion, political party and belief system have done. This isn't about Judaism and Jewish customs, it's about individuals acting in a manner that seems suspicious to others who share the same pressurized hull at 34,000 ft. Assumptions that the only "Jihadists" are of a certain color, nationality or religion is racist and offensive and is itself very WASPish.

Like I said, dogma generally doesn't stand up to pragmatism. The just because justification doesn't work for my 2 year old son when he has a temper tantrum, and it shouldn't work for Israel. They can have their country wherever they want, but I don't know why we have to support them when they place it in such a ridiculous location.

Interesting that most of you are fine with praying on a plane....I wonder how many of y'all oppose prayer in school???

First off. I was not responding to the incident. I was responding to the reactions of forum users. Second. Please name an instance of Jews blowing themselves up, blowing up and airplane or blowing things up with a hijacked airplane. Sure they have done unsavory stuff in far away places that is view(ed) by some as terrorism but so has the U.S. Military.

My point was most are too ignorant to factually back up their concerns. Just because your concerned it does not warrant action or taking others rights away.

Why is it a ridiculous spot?

Not concerned. I would be bummed I couldn't use the bathroom because some dumb ass Jewish guy was praying in there. Mostly I worry about: small children that scream in what sounds like horrific agony, ginormous lard butts that should be required to pay for 2 seats, those who somehow were able to board the aircraft even though they must have been sleeping in a puddle of urine in a dark alleyway the night prior, or getting up and using the bathroom even though the pilots of the Jet Blue airbus forgot the seat belt sign in fear that I would be tackled by some hair trigger retard.

Care to expand on this comment?

I'm curious to know if you've flown Airline/Part 121 before? Just curious is all.

I absolutely agree.

That said, when you're behind a locked cockpit door, you're working with whatever information has been given to you by those in the back. If that information is wrong or otherwise ignorant, well, it'll all get sorted out on the ground. You often don't have enough information up front to make such informed, culturally-sensitive decisions.
