Alaska Air CEO "Independent"

He says all this while AAG stock is at it's HIGHEST LEVEL, EVAH (hitting just over $70/share)! AAG is making some serious $$ right now even with gas as high as it is....but just you wait till Sept 7-9, 2011.

That's when it'll be time for Horizon's next 2 year pay rates (arbitration...btw, Thanks Colgan ALPA for getting such good payrates for the Q! :clap:)...then it'll be "We need you to be a 'industry average' if we want to grow as a company". If Horizon gets better pay rates, I can just about promise you that management will 'retaliate" with furloughs and announcements of something along the lines:
1) Horizon Announces ANC as new crew base, 10 airplanes and 100 pilots...Seattle and Portland to shrink as crew bases.
2) Skywest awarded CPA for Alaska Air to fly 10-15 more CRJ's on all flights over 2 hours previously operated by Horizon Air on "slow, noisy turboprops"
3) Horizon Air to furlough 75-100 pilots and remain at 48 airplanes for foreseeable future.

I should have put a :sarcasm: on there...it's all posturing right now by AAG. It's always been a widely held opinion that AAG would sell Alaska Air, but would keep Horizon Air. Let's call it the "5 year plan". Right now AAG is going to try and whipsaw Horizon against Skywest for CPA flying...they get lower pay rates at Horizon so they can "expand flying" and "get investors to invest in the company".

Alaska makes a good bit of $$ in the State of Alaska and any carrier purchasing/merging with Alaska would need to keep the intra-Alaska flying. Enter Horizon Air into the State of Alaska market. Horizon starts off slowly flying a few routes out of ANC and once the Q400 has "matured" enough in the market, it takes over all flying in the State of Alaska.

AAG sells Alaska for a nice chunk of $$, makes the investors happy, Horizon stays part of AAG and in turn making $$ with the single fleet of Q400's and the pilot group being whipsawed against Skywest.
