Unique ice formation. On the slope it will be snowing hard and 1500 feet up will be totally clear.

Surprisingly visitors are common here since this is the only village in ANWR so politicians and media visit regularly.

Freaking awesome:rawk: Looks like an awesome job. Our ex-police chief just got hired to sit sideways on the Six here recently.

I heard about that guy, haven't met him yet though. It seems like of this last class all the guys are old enough to be my dad.

The engineer position on the DC6 was an after thought so you sit on a fold down seat between the pilots facing forward, but thank god I'm no longer engineer current!

Thats because the young guys have SJS:p

How is it flying the beast?

Good. Its fun flying, decent time off and the crews are fun. Having 3 crewmembers is spoiling me, the idea of flying single pilot IFR again sounds so dangerous now. This is officially one year now that I've been in the Six and during that 1 year I've had 5 precautionary shutdowns, of those 2 happened within the last 3 weeks.

We just had openings in the C46 and I decided not to bid for the C-46 because I'm enjoying the DC6 so much and I didn't like the idea of going back to a twin and losing the comfort of knowing you have 4 engines.

Nice shots! You know, Just Planes has a DVD on the Everts DC-6 and it looks really weird seeing the S/O leaning over in between the two pilots.

I'm in that DVD, you can't see me but I was FE for the formation shots with the DC6 and Bro. The story is that Douglas planned the DC6 for a crew of 2 but after several DC4 accidents the Feds made Douglas stick an engineer in the aircraft hence the fold down center seat.

Wow, that's pretty interesting. Was it fun to fly in the formation, even though you didn't get to fly the aircraft?

Yeah it was a cool experience, I think the coolest part about it was later showing the DVD to my dad and telling him "Hey this is what I do now." Even though he's a medivac/charter pilot he really didn't "get" what I was doing but after watching that DVD he finally got what my job was like and what flying this airplane is like.
