Airtran

There are a couple Citrus guys over at APC. Might want to give a shot out there. Have an associate who has been with Citrus since 2000 and has enjoyed every bit of it. He came to them after a couple years flying the Dash-8 at Allegheny (sp?), obviously started on the right seat of the DC9, then when they started getting tired of the DC9 and had enough 717's he upgraded to the left on the 71. Been a Captain there for about 2 years now. He seems to enjoy it, haven't heard anything negative from him . . . but honestly, I only have a chance to talk to him about one every 6 months.
 
Im looking more along the lines as a passenger. im taking them next week to get back to new york and just wanted to know what i should expect.

In that regard. . . we used them for our air travel on our honeymoon, and let me tell you. . . what an ordeal.

Left 30 mins left, no mention as to why from any of the crew members or gate staff. This is leaving from the gate. In the end, we departed an hour and a half later than our original departure time.

Coming out of FLL on our return trip to ATL, same deal except it was 40 mins late pulling out of the gate.

Moral of the story - Do not expect to be on time.
 
I jumpseat on them every week. It's been great, and my experience with them has been on-time every time. Very friendly staff and crew; definitely look at the business class upgrade if you're on a long leg.
 
yea im in business on all legs. it is the cheapest thing going for such a short time. thank you to all the responded.
 
I'm a Delta brat, so I had high standards. I'm sure ALL of their flights are not that delayed. I suppose it had to do with the season (Pre-Christmas) and the higher than average load factor.

Yeah cause Delta is on time all the time! Anyways, with Airtran you can at least expect your bags to make it....

AirTran NEVER interlines their luggage and was the main reason that Delta ended their interline ticketing agreement with them.

Yeah I went to London and Dublin for 9 days with a carry on.
 
Let's just say AirTran isn't on my list of favorite airlines. They have left me stranded in an airport overnight on more than one occasion.

Well, for one, I wasn't trying to attack Citrus.

But actually, we lost two suitcases of luggage coming back from FLL after our honeymoon. Yeah, so expecting your bag with any airline is not promised.

It means just that. Since 89 I had only flown on Delta, and one trip on XJ. Until my honeymoon. I had great experiences as a young kid growing up on Delta airplanes, either the 727 flights to ORD, or the L1011 to Frankfurt - of which I did each of those at least once, if not twice a year. I have a lot of pride in Delta, and expected a lot from my travels on Air Tran compared to what I experienced in my time flying with Delta. Still have my travel pass card and use it frequently - and would much rather fly standby on Delta, (the 1989 [my old man] seniority is nice when non-revg) than pay full price on another airline.

I can tell you from personal experience running bags over to AT and picking them up that they do interline type stuff. Its not as much as some but it does happen. Then again I have seen plenty of AT rampers sling bags all over the ground and keep on going. Delta is no where near perfect either. I just spent 15 yrs at suthernjets and have first hand knowledge of baggage transfer from both airlines. If any airline tells you they dont lose you bags then know right then they are full of ****

In answer to your question, since I am employed by them, AirTran is great and I am not just saying that because I work there. I have never had a job where people wanted to be there flying around and getting treated great by the company. Does it have its ups and downs like any other business? Of course it does but I can truly say that I have been more than happy working here. When it comes to flights......sadly I will have to agree with what a lot of the people are saying about the delays. If you are flying out of Atlanta, your flight will be delayed.....I guarantee it. But at the same time, I have yet to take any airline that left out of Atlanta that left on time. The airport is just too damn busy for on time departures. No matter if you pull away from the gate 10 prior or not. But the good thing about us is, no matter if we leave late or not, around 85% of the time we arrive at our destinations early if not on the scheduled time that we were supposed to arrive. I think that you will have a good flight on an AirTran flight. PM me if you have anymore questions about it. Good luck. BTW, where are you flying to?
 
Out of curiosity, do you guys know that the listed/scheduled "departure time" of a flight is the time the plane is supposed to leave the gate and not take off? Apparently many don't. I've been flying my entire life and didn't realize it myself up until a couple years ago. Just a quick FYI...
 
I don't know if I am answering your question correctly but say if a flight is blocked on paper for 2 hours, with us, it usually means that the flight is actually around 1 hour and 35 minutes. I think the added time is there for pushback, taxi, and departure/approach traffic.
 
That's correct, but not exactly what I was alluding to. I just meant to say that if you look up on the board in the airport and see your flight to Dulles is at 10AM, then that is the time the plane is supposed to leave the gate, the actual time the flight is expected to take off is not posted anywhere.

Let me make an example. Your flight to DCA is supposed to depart LGA at 8:05 AM. The plane leaves the gate at that time and then sits waiting to takeoff for 45 minutes. Many people will then complain that the flight left 45 mins late when in fact, it left on time because as it left the gate at 8:05.
