AirTran/SkyWest Expansion Rumors

Did you read the boardroom update? 5 new stations opened by Skywest for the AirTran flying. Skywest does not open stations unless they know they are committed long term. They turned down some flying this year because the terms were for only 5 years or less. All the moves they are making signal towards long term goals. I betcha they want to establish something out west.

They opened stations? Dumb question maybe, but what does that mean?

A station consists of rent equipment, hiring staff, buying computers, etc etc etc, spending lots of money basically. Skywest is notorious for being tightfisted with their money and they don't usually invest unless they know there are favorable terms to come from it. FYI, equipment like GPU, air start machines, bag carts, etc are not cheap. Were talking 6 figures per station. 5 new stations would mean a multi million dollar investment. They would not make that type of investment for 5 stations unless there was a financial gain from it. I hope Todd and his ALPA buddie are making this priority one. I can guarantee you skywest will be offering EMB 190's for a tad bit more than republic rates and no more. And this pilot group is all about "me me me" so they would vote it in in a second.

Yeah, that's pretty annoying. I wish they wouldn't have called at all instead of giving us false hope like that.

Why call the poolies up for classes, then call them practically the next day to say 'oh, nevermind'?

I'm not aware they called poolies for classes. Did they? I got an email, back in Dec., from HR mentioning the class in Feb. and March, and that's all I heard officially. The only other thing I heard was the ASA furloughee that was offered an interview, and later got a call that it was cancelled. I just thought they had enough VOLA pilots to fill those spots.

SkyWest is no stranger to opening stations/bases and closing them relatively soon thereafter. Examples are Houston, Milwaukee, Lexington, Cedar Rapids, and a bunch more former SkyWest/UAX stations.

If you haven't invested in Skywest Inc. stock I suggest you do it now, quickly. Good day.

mechanics were sent to the desert to inspect 30 used CRJ200's. The condition wasn't all that good so SKYW asked Bombardier if they would be willing to restart production. They said no. :)

I heard that from a buddy last night and a few other good rumors about SKYW. He wanted me to come over and work there. I just can't handle the 50%-60% pay cut on the first year. Sound like things are looking up.

Doesn't anybody see the amazing coincidence here, union talk = rumors of growth! It's like clockwork people.
