Airports in the Ft Worth/Dallas Area

Anybody hangar an airplane at either Meacham or Alliance? Anybody fly in/out enough to be able to talk about the advantages/disadvantages/costs of keeping an airplane at one of these or another airport in the area?

Not sure about Meachum or Alliance, but when I was doing the aerial survey thing, we had our planes at Bourland Field, SW of those two (don't remember the ID, but it can be looked up). Decent place (live-in community), very stiff crosswinds almost every day. He was charging (I believe) $200/month for the hangar services. I have a feeling the other two airport would be more, but just speculation.

What kind of airplane? What other info you looking for? All my info was from about a year ago.

Live-in community sounds interesting. At this point, no airplane... but have a buddy who I may deal with later on his. First thing will be to get settled in before even thinking about it too much, but it may influence how I look at real estate.

No particular info at this point, but I fly a lot out of a local airport here with a buddy who keeps one hangared and I like the lack of constant activity and also like the small-field "everyone knows your name" environment

Mr. Bourland is a very nice guy...retired AA Capt. Very small community (A&P on the field is a furloughed AA FO), very nice people...wonder if I'd get a referral fee :) ? Just kidding.

Which airport are you out of? We were first out of Hicks in North FW, but it was too busy and had no hangars available, so we ended up moving our base. We were at Bourland for about 2 months. Good luck and let me know if you need more details.

As far as I know Alliance has no GA aircraft hangering on it its pretty much pure cargo ops in and outta there.

Meacham is/has been under construction forever but its pretty easy to get in and out of. Theres gotta be at least 100 airports under the DFW bravo.

If your lookin at the west of the area Northwest Regional(52F) is a nice little uncontrolled airport fairly close to Alliance. Denton (DTO) is class D north a little ways. Closer down to the southwest corner you have arlington which has quite a bit of GA stuff. Those are a few off the top of my head. One thing he'll want to look at is taxes associated with the airplane and where its kept. I've heard DTO is fairly expensive tax wise.

Just had a minute to check the web site. Looks like a nice place, but if all the houses are in that $600K range....all I'll get to do is dream about it!

You and me both...they had a chart of all the lots not sold inside the office, and, if memory serves me correctly, the cheapest LOT was around $45-60K. They had a minimum square foot house you could build and all, so yes, it's a pipe dream to live there for me also.

Sorry, Joe..I never answered this. I'm not in TX right now. I live in Omaha and the airport we fly out of is Plattsmouth, just to the south of the city.

You are somewhat right...
Alliance Aviation Services has two large hangars just north of the Tower that houses a few Charter Planes, Perot's Aircraft and any overnight transient aircraft (read = NASCAR, some Military, Corporate, etc).

I know that AA's Facility is the most expensive in their network only because of the lease, so you can imagine the cost of putting a small GA hangar there. FedEx uses AFW becuase of the Free-Trade-Zone (less cost I guess), the DEA has the southern Hangar (Aviation Ops Center) and Bell's Training Academy; all very commercial/gov't spenders. I have always dreamed about having a nice (large) hangar there when I win the lottery :sarcasm: but those are dreams.

Roanoke is a great little place, stop by Tina's Pilot Shop on the East side just south of North Tx Aero () or go in to MarcAir() on the West Side (2nd hangar) and just ask if they know of any hangars available, Tammy and the gang there are always ready to answer Q's about almost anything. I know there are at least three hangars right now with signs out front.
