Airports, in general...

Years ago I used to go to the perimeter road on the approach to 9L at Ft Lauderdale...not anymore. I think you can't park your car there anymore, but I'm not sure...
Nothing like a Delta L-1011 150 ft or so over your head. It literally looked like the airplane on final was landing on top of you!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif

That's what we used to do when I was a kid at MEM. Spots are still there, but airport security boots you out in a heartbeat.....

Gravelly Point Park on the GW Parkway is great. Remember back when US Airways did their ad with the kid chasing the plane? I think they shot it there!

. . .but some of them go overboard and tell people that its illegal to sit around and watch planes, especially if you're takin pictures.

If you think that's overboard, you must be a terrorist....

Your camera, please.

I agree 100 percent.

At PHX, the Left Seat restaraunt on 34th street and Airlane, on the north side of the field, has an upstairs deck area where you can watch planes.

Just make sure you lock your car doors! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You can see the parking lot too behind you, and it's well within lethal of the .357 Desert Eagle.

I'm going to have to borrow that if I ever get around to going to the Bill Johnson's on Van Buren near PCA parking!

Next time I'm in town, we'll go shooting. I've got a military membership to Scottsdale Gun Club on Raintree road, so we can go there. We'll get you about 200 rounds through each weapon in day and night, single and multiple threats, face-on and profile targets.

Will be cool..........

yeah, i know.. but i'm looking for the ones where you can just sit and watch the planes without security wondering what the heck your doing?! I know orlando took out their "spotting area" because of security and it seems like so many airports are doing the same thing.

What I'd like to do is take a few trips to these airports, take some photo shots and just sit and watch the planes coming in/go out during rush hour....

[/ QUOTE ]Then you need to go to LAX. Get some "In N Out" which happens to be right under 24R, and then set up camp on the grassy knoll that the City of LA has provided. I have on a couple occasions brought some lawn "lazy Boy" chairs, my scanner, and gotten Some Grub from In N Out and made a whole afternoon of it.

Also if you like watching mass amounts of Corporate stuff, they you should head over to Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Van Nuys has a very nice viewing place that is open from 8 in the morning till 10pm, and you are right off of the taxiway. There are some nice seats and ample shade. Van Nuys at certain times of the day will be busier than LAX. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

[/ QUOTE ] that sounds kewl!! I might make an OC trip for something like In-n-Out, grassy knoll, airplane scanner & airplane watching!!!!

nah on the corporate stuff, we get to see the corporate guys fly over the house pretty much on a daily basis.. I like watching the big boys fly in!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

As long as you let me bust off a few rounds in the ghetto-fabulous 'sideways' style!

me too! me too!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can be ghetto!! can't i???hahaha

Straight from the Madison hood, eh Kristie? haha! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

that's Oregon... Oregon panthers to be exact.. and the Stoughton vikings are going DOWN! hehehe (ok.. so now i'm back in HS, it is a friday night (football night) wanting to take down a few punks i knew back then)....

hehe.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

CVG has an awesome public viewing area adjacent to rwy.
18L/36R course I haven't been there in almost a year so not sure if is open still or not maybe some one could shed some light on that fer me.

Matthew

CVG's area is open and the "official" viewing has actually been expanded in the last year. On the rare occassion they land Rwy 27 its the place to be.
