Airport Shuttle Rant

Seems like it never fails, I'll be the first person waiting for the shuttle and 15-20 other people will show up. As soon as the bus shows up everbody who gets there after me will bum rush the door and fill it up so I can't get on. I've seen the daily airport employees do this to other pilots and FA's quite a bit. Usually it's really bad when they're is a shift change, but the last thing I want to do after a 4 day is stand around and wait 20 minutes to get to my car.

Just my rant for the day.

Or even better the two crews waiting from another airline for a van (all of which got there after me) jump into the van leaving no room for me. Of course when the van shows up 30 minutes later, turns out they all got in for the wrong hotel and the van had to go take them somewhere else.

I haven't shared a van with them in a while, but is a certain southeast-based airline getting better about sharing a van with other crews? By the way, Southwest crews are the best to share vans with, they'll normally invite you along! :)

Great van story--

We walk to the pick up point to find a Houston CAL crew trying to load their bags into a stretch Lincoln limo. The guy running the service says "No, that's not yours. Your ride is over there, number 34..." and motions to a waiting minivan.
We roll up and give our flight number and the guy says, "Ah, yes, there you are..." and motions to the limo. We all look at each other, grin, and pile in.

Ten minutes later, we pull up to the hotel, and lo and behold, there's the mainline CAL crew getting out of the van, at the same hotel!. We get out of the limo, look at them, grin, and say "Whassup?!"

The look on their face was priceless. God I love sticking it to CAL every now and again.

At my airline 50% of the time they give you a rental car. If not then a company car, if that is not the case, in a place such as AUG, you will share a 1980 Chevy Caprice (the town taxi cab) with the town locals going to the bar, doctors appointments, going to work at McDonalds, picking them up at work at McDonalds, and a variety of other interesting destinations.

We flew into RSW and were parking at Private Sky. We were stayign at a local Holiday Inn Select and we were waiting for the Van. For some reason we didn't get a car, not sure why on this time. That was the only time we didn't get a rental.

Well anyways, the van took about 30 minutes and it shows up fulll minus 2 so we hop in. It is a group of pilots and FA's from UAL and Southwest. One of the FA's from UAL was so pissed they had to come pick us up. She was very vocal to the driver and told us we violated her contract because they are supposed to go straight to the hotel. Everyone else was chatty and nice, and they told us not to mind that *****.

Funny thing was, I took a look at a couple of the FA's and thought, at least I don't have to bring my own cooler to work. :)
