Airplane crash near PHX?

There was something on the news here in Portland about an airplane crash somewhere near Phoenix. I just caught the last seconds where they mentioned the pilots were from Hillsboro, OR. I can't find any news online about it. Has anyone heard anything about this?

A good friend of mine who is going to school at Portland Community College's A&P mechanic program and who works at Hillsboro Aviation texted me this afternoon and said it was a friend of his who was killed.

Other than that, I know no details. Very sorry to hear about it.

Oh crap... You know if it was an HAI plane/pilot/instructor? They haven't sent out any emails about this.

My buddy sent this text:

"One of my buddies from class died in a plane crash in AZ last night. Abc15.com"

That's all I've heard from him and haven't gotten a chance to talk to him about it yet. I'm assuming he was referring to a classmate at the A&P school.

When I went to the web site I found this:

He was a student at my school too. Really nice young guy, always with a smile in his face. We were going to be in the same class this summer.

When I found out about the crash, I couldn't help but to remember a saying that I read here in JC (I think from Doug) years ago, that basically says that if you are in the aviation world long enough you'll see people you know go this way.

Well, I thought about those words a few times these last years, and I always though I was fortunate, because it wasn't the case for me.
Sadly, the saying proves to be true......:(

RIP
