Airnet's avionics?

Hello all -

I am curious as to what types of avionics are installed in Airnet's various piston aircraft. Are they uniform? in other words do all the 310s have a kln 89b etc..

... also, do they have weather radars and/or autopilots?

Thanks fellas

Avionics...

It all depends. There is no standardization of the fleet. I know that most BE-58's have GPS, quite a few have WX radar, almost all have HSI's, some autopilots, and other than that, it all depends on how the previous owners equipped them. You will at the minimum have DME in the Barons.

The PA-31's are a more standard cockpit, but still not guaranteed to have any particular equipment. By standard, I mean the engine guages are all in the same spot, etc. I think most have autopilots, some have radar, GPS, etc.

Caravans are a little better equipped, except some of our out-based aircraft. I have heard some are basic models with very little in the "bells and whistles" department.

As for the 310's, I do not fly them, but I have been told very few have WX radar, and it varies on their equipment.

The nav systems in the A/C I fly have varied from different GPS manufacturers, RNAV systems, and LORAN.

thanks for the reply, how long have you worked for airnet? how do you like it, and how long did it take your body to adjust to the night time schedule?

Airnet Q's...

I've been here since the end of May, been on-line since mid June. I love it here. I have no body schedule, except my days off, so to truthfully answer your question, I still haven't adjusted to the schedule. I am a floater, so my schedule varies by as much as 12 hours, depending on the route.

For example, this week, I am in TEB and my day is from 1830 to 0430, then next week, I'll be in BUF, where I don't start until 0245 and end at 0930. It's actually a pretty easy week for me, but I never have the same schedule. Most people get used to their schedule if they have a normal run within a few weeks.

txpilot,

What's it like taking small, twin-engine piston planes through all types of serious weather? I realize you have yet to do deal with winter flying at Airnet, but just how bad does the weather have to get before the company is fine with you opting to wait a storm out, etc? In talking with other Airnet pilots, they basically said the stuff has to get there, so they get it there. Is this true? Thanks in advance....

Airnet...

75plt2b,As far as Airnet and "getting it there", let's just say I've never cancelled a flight. You learn the tricks very quickly, as most freight dogs can probably attest to. There is no magic to Airnet, or any of the pilots in freight, but we have learned where to go and not to go. Very rarely does the wx get so bad that you can't go...about the only way that happens is if the airport you're going to is closed, then you go to one that's open nearby. As far as the icing stuff goes, yes we are already dealing with it. I believe a 'Van went down not too long ago, possibly due to icing (waiting for the final report on that one; just telling what the speculation was...not saying that's actually what happened). Check the Airmets for the Northeast and see what we've been dealing with icing-wise (other parts of the country are the same right now with the cold wx).Good luck and fly safe.TX

Thinking of applying

Hey TX,

I'm thinking of applying at airnet and I just had a question about the bases. You mentioned that you were in TEB one week and then Buffalo the next. Is this normal, or do most pilots stay at one base? I ask because I am married with kids and would like to stay at one base and be home with my family on days off and after shifts.

Thanks

NDBhater,

Sorry, I just saw your question...sorry about bringing back an old topic, but oh well...

Normally people bid a route and stay on that route until they upgrade, move on to another company, or find something they like better. I move around because of the schedule (it's called a floater here at Airnet with an 8/6 rotation), so I fill in when people are on vacation, there's a route open, or people are doing checkrides. See some of my other posts, if you haven't already, and it'll answer some questions for ya.

TX
