AirNet Training

The instructor's initials are BL and RA. RA hasn't made it in yet but I hear he's a great guy.

I observed the city meet when I was in for my interview...pretty intense. I hear that we get to work the sort and run carts out during training. that should be fun.

You know...it seems like everywhere I go, things are slowing down. The year I started flying skydivers, it was a super slow year. When I went to AirNet, the talk was how loads had been cut in half. And now I'm flying a plane that Skyway intends to get rid of. I'll be happy to make captain in the Beech, but there are only like 5 of them left and 20 lines of flying and Skyway wants out of our EAS stations when our contract is up this year. Eventually I'm gonna have to go to the jet and sit SIC there for the rest of my life.

Second day was a little more tough. 135 Wx is a bit different than 91 but I think I got the hang of it by the end of the evening. The first quiz was pretty easy, all you have to do is review the material from the previous day and you'll be fine. It's now 3 am which has been the typical time my training class has been hitting the sack. Today we walked into the lobby and told the lady up front good morning and she gave us a strange look. After I got through the door I realized why she did that. It was 1 pm and definitely not morning. I love it!

She always gives me strange looks too but its usually because I'm hitting on her.

I actually had a controller tell me "You freight guys are weird...6 in the morning and your saying good night". It's all relative.

How long did it take you to get to Rick last night?
MKE-MDW was cake. And then it took two hours from MDW-CPS.

I heard thru the grapevine that the SkyWest MKE base is going junior with a really quick upgrade. Something to ponder.

Yeah, that would've helped a little back when I had an interview with them! But I wouldn't have been able to get MKE based because I wouldn't have been assigned the CRJ. I was set on being done with commuting so I could spend more time at the Guard in Milwaukee. So, Skyway it was. I kept pushing my interview with Skywest later and later. I'm happy where I'm at though, just a little frustrated that I can't rest on my laurels for at least a few months!

I loved training there. It was just me and one other dude and we had so much fun.

If she's the same front desk lady that was there six months ago, she's mean to alot of people. I seriously think she hates life.

Yeah the winds have been kickin lately. We were showing 400 across the ground in the Beech today!

I guess it's time to give an update...sorry, it's been busy with all the studying. I just got done yesterday with the Indoc Test and today we did the Baron test. They both took some studying and got mid 90s on both. No beer and wings for the class though. Oh well guess we'll just have to go out and get our own wings and beer, which sounds good to me. Sim starts tomorrow so I'm getting ready for that. The ground school is difficult and requires a lot of time be devoted to studying. I thought Flysher was jokin with me when he said he had time to do 3 things: eat, sleep, and studying, but he was right on. Those who don't keep themselves in the books are the guys that are skirting by with 80-85% on the tests. Just to let yall know!

By the way, I see interviews going on twice a week so I know they're calling people. Get your applications submitted. All the pilots here are great and eager to give you advice. It is very much a friendly and laid back atmosphere but they still have a 98% on time precentage. That ought to tell you something.

SIM is tough. Just changing everything about how you shoot approaches and pretty much how you fly is not easy. Going back in tonight to practice some more before tomorrow.

Passed the sim today! Woohoo...Kinda glad to be out of the sweat box. We start flying tomorrow and it looks like t-storms.

Hey congrats man!

Any tips for a guy who's about to interview next week?

Be yourself! Don't try to pretend to be some hot shot. They can see right through that. It seemed to me that they are looking for people who don't mind shooting raw data approaches down to minimums at max gross weight. Pilot Recruit wants people who want to be there, be sure to let them know this(don't be overbearing though). They tell you from Day 1 that they aren't training Baron captains, they're training Lear captains. Be polite! Say thank you and try opening doors for people. It'll go a long way with pilot recruitment. Most of all, RELAX and have fun. I had a great experience and it proved to be successful. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

A typical first training night haha... I left around 10 on a jet to get to my assignment and I think I saw one of you taxi out.. let us know how the weather treated ya!!
