AirlineApps: “Why Haven’t I Heard Anything”

My latest ‘kink’ are auto finance videos on YouTube.

I can’t believe how many people get themselves into trouble over purchasing vehicles they can’t afford.

“I want that Charger with the scat pack but I owe $40K on a 2022 Sentra, I have a $5000 down payment but my mom will co-sign for me”. It’s like oxytocin hit while indulging in a little bit of the Jerry Springer show. I feel dirty but it’s kind of entertaining.

I had another CA give me a hard time for the price I was gonna pay on some acreage. I was like bro…you have 200k of depreciating assets in your garage and I’m over here wondering if I can get 400K miles out of my Honda Ridgeline before it kicks off. You do you, I’ll do me.

Keep in mind that some of this is due jointly to the fact that 1) the average new car is astronomically expensive compared to a few years ago and 2) there are no meaningful alternatives to driving in most parts of this dystopia. The average new car is something like $40,000 now, which is way up from the last decade.

The used market is bonkers too.

Well, there are other realities, like the one where General Motors invented the compact fusion reactor, but otherwise I agree.

Pilots! Ungh!

Reminds me of when I was based in DFW and the captains would lose their sh— because Arizona had a state tax.

“Uhh, I like Arizona and my tax footprint is a mere percentage of what you’re paying in a ‘state tax free’ state?”

(Plus, I don’t think success is living a life to please people who don’t give a sh— about my happiness, just validation of the stupid choices they made? :) ) or, alternatively, “I can’t commute!” “Good for you”

Every junior enlisted kid returning from a deployment with TDY money…..

I feel like both can be true at the same time?? At least thats my world.......maybe not 200k of cars, but probably a lot more than the average Joe. And they all have 2 doors and I'd be afraid to park them in the employee lot. My decisions about my airport/beater are not rational either. Dumping twice the value of the car into MX in the last few months, when I could have just as easily purchased a reliable newer car. But I'm also trying to get at least 500k miles out of it.

Imagine if they’d spent the money on R&D instead of buying up transit systems and dismantling them…er, anyway. I know I sound like Austin Powers when I suddenly revert to “uh, yay uh capitalism!” :)
