Airline surrenders to America's obesity epidemic by offering wider seats

I always give guys the option, "if it's a middle seat, you can stay up here," regardless of what gate agent Glenda says.

I thank you for that. I wish everyone did. I personally don't care if the jump seat is occupied or not. I do care though if it's not occupied and someone got left behind.

I'm 6'0" and 193 with a 32" waist. My waist is not the problem. My wide shoulders on the other hand... I get bumped by everyone and the beverage cart in the aisle seat and I have to scrunch my shoulders together in the middle seat.

Same here, I hate scrunching my shoulders in.

You guys really piss me off because you seem to be the norm...you are blowing the curve for me. Admittedly I am getting a little pudgy in the middle, but not that long ago I was down to 205 and 6'4". There was no way I was ever getting into a 32 waist. 36 AT BEST. Why? Because i am not a toothpick. Unfortunately clothing manufacturers thing I am and should be.

I wear a 34 length in jeans and they typically come in two sizes. <32x34 and >40x34. So I'm either a fatty, or a bean pole. A 36x34 or even a 38x34 is like the holy grail of pants sizes.

I wear 34x34. I was up to 220 last year before I declared enough is enough! My goal is obtain and maintain 185.

The EMB 175 is my favorite airplane to ride in the back. No middles and the seats are 18.25" wide. Almost a full inch wider than the narrow body Boeing seats. Airbus are usually close to 18" as well. You wouldn't think it but that extra 3/4 to one inch wider is huge.

Make the dreaded 'middle seat' wider to encourage its use. Either fit them with longer belts, or hand out extenders automatically.

Of course, then you'd have to load window seat PAX first. :bang:

Never have understood why different loading patterns (rear-to-front, window-middle-aisle) have made no significant difference in the time to load an aircraft. o_O

Didn't the myth busters do an episode on aircraft boarding?

If you ever find a place that reliably stocks these, please let me know.

6'3", 240, 36 waist. I barely fit in the aisle, much let the seats. At least I don't airline much...

I wish all airlines would do away with the overhead, check in all bags and keep it to one personal bag under the seat. And keep a few overhead bins for commuting crews.
I don't really care to have my luggage lost or damaged so I avoid checking.
