I don't know if it works that way in the airline industry or not, but that would mean it's completely different than the rest of corporate America. People can and do get more and more money for doing the same job. Do it well, and you get a little bonus, and they give you a merit raise, even though you're doing the same thing year in, year out. That's on top of the cost of living raises.

Alot of other industries DON'T get cost of living raises. I am in a field (Engineering) that doesn't get COL Some years you actually make less after the merit raise (if you get one at all) as it isn't even COL increase. Its the promotion that keeps you ahead of the curve. I would equate that going from right to left seat.
