The "How Much $$$" thread was locked, but I think these links should be mentioned as they are a great resource for more specific compensation rates by years of service & seat, plus monthly guarantee:

Yeah...I couldn't figure out why Doug locked that other than it must be hard to deal with the "repeat question syndrome".

I'd say the average pay at a major flying Boeing's would be at least six figures for an F/O and 150 to 180K for a Capt...depending on seniority and equipment. The average is down, now, with problems with majors are having...which reflects the economy in general. We all hope things turn around in the future.

I'm a 14 year F/O at UPS and make about 140K. Been flying since 1978, no military background.
 
Hey, did I just read that right? Did I just see that Southwest pays its first officers MORE money than those "overpaid" guys at many of the "dinosaurs?"

You'd never think that reading the media reports.

that's it for the most part... before posting the question, people need to "read" the site because just about all the information you need is on the site somewhere... not just in the forums.

I provided basic ball park figures in the FAQ. The FAQ consists of questions that I recieved at least or more emails recieved per day over the past eight years of running the website.

Kind of like "Hey, what kind of schedule do you fly?"
-If I ignore the post, the question doesn't get answered or gets answered by someone with anecdotal experience.
-If I answer the post, the normal evolution of the thread mirrors previous posts.
-If I point the user to pre-existing information, there is normally enough of a pre-existing discussion that would answer the normal questions that spring up.

Almost like the scene in "The Matrix: Revolutions" where Neo meets the "Architect".
 
Does that SWA figure take into account stock options, too? Last time I checked, I think pilots at SWA got less $$$ than the majors but better stock options.
 
It'd be interesting to find out!

Anyway, my thing is that it really bothers me that nobody in the media does their homework. They throw out the 747 or A340 captain salaries, and compare that to Southwest. But they don't bother to note that Southwest only operates 737s and that the pay scale for the legacy carriers is very different and comparable to Southwest's.
 
Here's the average day as an airline analyst:

(a) Recieve a few 'talking points' from contacts within an airline with ulterior motives
(b) Surf the net
(c) Piece together other writer's analysis
(d) Crank out a few research pieces
(e) Repeat
 
And they look at the salary of the number one seniority guy at each carrier and ASSUME that all pilots make that. I feel like asking them, well don't reporters make 6 figures? Your editor does.
 
I love it when people tell me that I make $340,000 as a Delta pilot.

If I made fat loot like that, I certainly would have saved for a couple of years, thrown that cash into a annuity and retired by now!

I know! My friend has 17 years with WN. Last year he told me he worked pms, mostly T-W-TH trips, and made $160K. If you take into account his profitsharing and company 401K match too, he cleared $200K. Of course, he's not a junior guy either...

This site has payscale info by seat & seniority. Most of the regionals are listed too (so it should be better than the ATP figures if they are off) but most of the payscales are buried in the contract text and not seperate .pdf files-

would i sound crazy and evil if i said that i was looking for a way to get rich fast and retire, and that fly jets seemed like a nice way to do it? Would you agree?

Also if i were to start flight training after a four year university, meaning i would be about 21. How long would it take me to get hooked up with one of the big four, if i got all the reccomended qualification on the website as fast as humanly possible?

please dont get angry at me becuase if i sound stupid, its just that i dont know very much about being a pilot.

I don't think you sound evil. But if you are getting into aviation for the money....you are getting into it for the wrong reason...trust me. I made $600 a month at my first job and had to clean toilets and sweep the hangar floor.
