Airline Apps airplane totals

I'm filling out airline apps and when I enter all my time in it shows my total time as being higher than it actually is. It totals PIC (while not an instructor), instructor time, and dual received. However, some time counts as dual received and PIC and it adds it improperly and comes up with a higher than actual total.

What did you guys do here. Not count the dual received/PIC time as PIC or not count it as dual received. If I do the latter, it will show that I only have 18 hours of dual received....

Definitions: PIC = Pilot in Command
Instructor = Instructor
SIC = Second in Command
Dual/Stud = Student
FE/Nav = Flight Engineer or Navigator

Enter your flight time totals in accordance with FAR Part 61 (see below). However, DO NOT include any "PIC" pilot time that was also logged as "dual". Even though the FARs allow you to log PIC time and dual time simultaneously under certain circumstances, the airlines want your PIC time to reflect only the time that you had "final authority and responsibility for the operation and safety of the flight".

IMPORTANT: The system will automatically include your instructor time in the total PIC calculation. Therefore, do not include your instructor hours with your PIC time. For example, if you have 1000 hours of PIC time logged including 200 hours of Instructor time then you would enter 800 hours PIC and 200 hours Instructor.

Definitions from the FAA:

Pilot in command means the person who:
(1) Has final authority and responsibility for the operation and safety of the flight;
(2) Has been designated as pilot in command before or during the flight; and
(3) Holds the appropriate category, class, and type rating, if appropriate, for the conduct of the flight.
Second in command means a pilot who is designated to be second in command of an aircraft during flight time.

Ah, thanks man. I think when I read it I interpreted it as dual given vs. PIC. Thanks man
 
Keep in mind that the entire system was designed and is run by a guy that does psychological evaluations for a living. When you think about the app as a psyc test it pretty easy to fill out.

How does that make it easier to fill out? The ease of adding up numbers in different Columns doesn't change if I think of it as a psych test or an Internet survey. Can you elaborate please?

I would pay to have an afternoon with that guy. He has found the hardest way possible for someone to put this on an app:

1. Total Time
2. Multi Engine
3. Instrument Time
4. Type Ratings
 
I get why they don't count the PIC time that's also logged as dual- makes perfect sense to me. But why they ask for he data in that format is beyond me. I can't imagine doing that app if I didn't have an electronic logbook.
 
I've sent them feedback about this exact problem. It's a pain to enter these numbers initially, and even more of a pain to update them-it requires several steps, and thankfully I have an online logbook with a search function otherwise it would be like pulling teeth. Their response is that the airlines want it that way-which I can understand-but there HAS to be a more logical way to update my flight times.

Back in the day, Sonny, a lot of applications only wanted you to include "Aircraft Commander" time, which meant non dual-recieved PIC.

It's a pain, but I kind of get it. They're trying to ascertain the time you've flown in sole command of the aircraft when you're the one signing and fully responsible for it.

When there's a CFI in the right seat and you're working on your commercial, you're "responsible", but he's responsible if you catch my drift.

I'd like a mojito now. Help please?
 
I've just spent half my day having my brain bashed in by airlineapps. I couldn't figure out why my times weren't totaling up....and yup I found about 20.3 hours from 5 years ago that didn't make it into total time column. So after some white out and asterisks, Im all good again.

But still after staring at that airlineapps matrix I figured out that their total of your pic and your total of your pic will be off by however much "duel" you received while also logging "pic".

What this really showed me is that I will be buying logbook pro and syncing it from my iphone.
