Airline Ads Depict Corporate Jets As Freeloaders

Nope...no sarcasm.

No emotion in the issue either. I'm just trying to learn the truth behind the name-calling...to see if the airlines are truly shouldering the infrastructure burden while everying else is getting a free ride...or not.

I do hope ATC services remain free to GA...but I do believe it unfair to milk the airlines as cash cows to pay for everyone's service. If that's what's going on...the general fund should help out...but I don't see this happening at all.

I don't see anything good about user fees, though. Corporate jobs are tough to justify...I'd hate to see GA get any more expensive than it already is.

I got my tickets in the military. Now, my employer is subsidizing General and Corporate aviation. Its time for them to pay their fair share. If they can't afford to use the services, then they should stay out of controlled airspace.

I'd be interested to hear your views on education and healthcare.

Well sir with all due respect, I'm glad I never had to call you for air support, because if it put any strain on you, apparently we'd be screwed.

Edit: Ok, maybe it's not for all that and I shouldn't be saying that to a fellow former service member. But its that type of selfish thinking that has this industry in the chokehold its in. I'm done with this topic as it is pretty ridiculous and boils my blood.

Actually, I would say it's the flying public that is paying to use the services. Do you really think if the 7% tax was dropped airlines would raise fares 7%? No, they'd stay right where they are.

In addition, I know in general part 135 operations are subject to the federal excise tax (FET) as are certain part 91 operations, I believe mostly subpart K (ie netjets) stuff.

The thing that kills me is that the FAA wants to obtain a more predictable form of funding by going to a fuel tax. Yet what they don't understand is the more they tax, the less people will fly - well, except the airlines, who will fly anyway, which sets up the same situation we are in now. So then their solution will be to raise the tax to cover budget shortfalls - further exasperating the problem. Europe here we come.

Actually, its your type of thinking that has this country in a mess. Its called entitlement. You think you're entitled to use the airspace for free because you pay income tax.

I consider the airspace to be more like a tollroad, IF you want the system to pay for itself. Sure, the big trucks pay more, but the little cars pay something, too. Now, I have no problem with the airlines paying a larger percentage, but right now, GA and Corporate pay NOTHING.

Now, if you want the system to be subsidized, then the taxpayers pay the whole thing and the services must be provided to the airlines free of charge as well.

Right now, that's not the case. The airlines pay and you freeload. And that's simply wrong. You can't have it both ways.

Pick your poison.

So, did you pay a toll on the road you drove on yesterday to get to and from work?

No?

So why should I, after writing a check to the IRS just like millions of other Americans, have to pay to use the equivalent road in the sky?

And don't forget, that check I wrote to the IRS? It helped pay for your training.

You got taxpayer funded training and now you want the taxpayers to cut another check for ATC services which their tax dollars already funded?

You don't see a contradiction there?

Could you explain this statement please?
