Yes they do - Family and friends.

I went on one a year or so ago out of JAX. We were out for 6 hours or so having an awesome time.

The Tiger Cruise is where it's at. When I was coming back from my West-Pac cruise in '93, my Dad met up with us in Hawaii and rode the ship back to San Diego.....

I finally get to go back to sea...well as a civilian this time. My brother in- law is out on the Stennis CVN-74. I get to be his guest for the final leg home. I thnk they're doing the Tiger Cruise a little different on this cruise. He said something about instead of Hawaii, that it's going to be Alaska. I hope he's kidding or got mis-information. I was really looking forward to heading back to Pearl Harbor for some sightseeing.:nana2:

I did a tiger cruise out of Pearl Harbor on the Nimitz. It was great. A couple days on the beach and then a few more on the carrier back to San Diego. Now they call them friends & family days. It really only lasts about 8 hours or so & not all of them include flight ops.

Nice pic of the GW. My brother is the Strike Ops officer!:rawk:

Awesome pics:rawk:

I am strongly considering going to sea in support of the armed forces in the Military Sealift Command.:bandit:

The west coast guys have the Tiger Cruises and the east coasters have Friends and Family Day. The easst coast carriers don't have a stopping point from when they leave the Med till when the day the arrive back home. The west coast carriers always stop in Peal Harbor prior to the final leg home. They usually send the advance members from all the squadrons home to San Diego, Whidbey Island and Lemoore, to prepare for their squadron's return home.

Were these pics taken before ~May 2008? What are the two carriers in port?

I thought the one on the left was the Washington (CVN-73) which was based in Norfolk until ~May 2008, but now it's based out of Yokosuka, Japan. However, while enroute to Japan last year it had a serious fire off the coast of South America (both the CO and XO were relieved) and pulled into San Diego for repairs, so I thought the pic was taken in San Diego. Maybe it's a pic of the Washington in Norfolk before it left port enroute to Japan or maybe I was wrong about the carrier identity.

So, what are the two carriers and when were the pics taken? Based on the vegetation and the way the civilians are dressed, my guess is this pic was taken in the spring or summer, not January or February 09 (the original post for this thread was Feb 3, 2009) so I'm guessing it's possible that it might be the Washington.
