Airbus files patent for saddle seats on planes

I'd love to see the crash tests of that system.

Yep, AB can patent anything they want but getting approval to install it in an airplane is another matter. I'd be surprised to see it get that far.

But, if it did, what wouldn't surprise me is seeing people book seats on the airplane...and then scream bloody frikkin' murder about how bad their $19 airplane ride was.

Singapore first class for VLCC prices ? Like that's unreasonable ? :bounce:

Um whiskey tango foxtrot, over.

(CNN) -- For air travelers who like to gripe about being cramped in economy, here comes another warning that they've never had it so good.

Airbus has filed a patent application showing detailed renderings of what may be the plane seat of the future.

The design shows narrow rows of folding saddle seats with low backrests on which passengers perch rather than recline.

The patent application, which makes even the most budget of budget airline seating look luxurious, was published last month and is available for viewing by the public.

Yeah yeah, just a patent. But still...don't give the airlines any ideas.

Make it like an actual saddle that you sit on with a leg on either side, and I'll be a happy guy. With my spine, sitting on a motorcycle feels way better than sitting in a normal seat.

Reminds me of a bit Lewis Black did like ten years ago about flying to New Zealand. I'd link it, but it would violate the profanity policy.

And then there's the part about staring at the back of a Punta-Gorda bound man's neck for 4 hours.

Ironically my wife is having surgery Monday because she fell out of her saddle Saturday.

As much as I like complaining on the Internet...

On ultra high density markets with short (30-45 minute) leg lengths, this wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Anyone figure out how it's going to work for our "wider" friends that say maybe Southwest currently requires the purchase of two seats for?
