Airbus A380: The Death Watch Begins

about time. This thing is just too big

I like the plane even if it is unrealistically sized for most passenger needs, but a clear example of poor planning on the part of Airbus. Sometimes, you do time things right, and in this case, they just missed the opportunity entirely. With 747's being dropped, it was never a surprise that this was going to follow suit. The delays with production, etc. only saved the bottom lines of all the airlines waiting for planes.

I still think the A380 makes sense in the long-term, particularly in slot controlled airports. It may just be that air passenger congestion hasn't reached the point where the a380 becomes truly efficient for air carriers given that it allows such carriers the opportunity to reduce from 1.8 777 flights down to a single a380.

It's a fine-sized airplane for the time. The hilarious this is that it was built around the time that the big type was about VLJ's and how they were going to revolutionize the world.

Until we were suborbital flying hypersonic, it's just another 737 with better numbers and slightly better performance data

Do you know something I don't? As far as I know the 747 isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Dear Airbus,

Kill that stupid 380 and look at what Boeing has done wrong. You can make a lot of bucks of Franks of whatever. Take the fuselage off the A321 and design some new longer wings that will allow the airplane to have a double bogey landing gear. Every time we land at near max weight in the summer we have to use the brake fans.

Put a much more powerful engine on it. Longer wings, better wheels and brakes and bigger motors and this thing will fly off the assembly line. It is just what the industry wants.

By the way fix that damn computer that yells "retard retard" on every landing. It should say "idle, idle" . Airline pilots are very likely to be idle but we resent being called retards, at least most of us.

Your friend,
Zapphod

I believe a lot depends on Emirates and their A 350 decision. Airbus might continue production if EK orders a significant number of A 350. If not bye bye whale....
