Air Willie...good/bad?

Find a place with good QOL.

QOL is where it's at.

I've learned thru the years that a great day at work doesn't stand up to a mediocre day puttering around the house.

Primarily why I bang my head against the wall when people constantly ask "What's the upgrade time at Air XYZ?" -- Most likely a lot different when you get there! It's the nature of the business.

That's one of the reasons upgrade time isn't really that important to me when I'm looking at regionals that I'd like to someday work for. Pay is more or less even across the board, so I mainly look at the bases I wouldn't mind living at/ease of commuting, equipment and general QoL. If only two or three majors are hiring, there's really no rush to upgrade.

The quick upgrades at mesa sure went away fast. All it took was getting rid of some B-1900s and presto the 2 month upgrade was just a pipe dream. Also turned upgrade time in the Jet to like 4 or 5 years last time I checked. I knew it wasnt a place where I wanted to be stuck at for the rest of my career so I bolted as soon as I could. It was also a good lesson on doing my homework. If I would have listened to advice from others better I wouldnt have had to start at the bottom of the list again. It all worked out good though I live where im based and my blood pressure is no longer through the roof

.. QOL Truly is worth its weight in gold, even if I did have to start over to obtain it.

Talked to my buddy at Mesa on the phone tonight. For the first time he sounded really depressed about being an airline pilot since Mesa abuses thier pilots. Things like reduced rest on overnights, 14-16 hour duty days and long airport layovers (airport appreciation events) make him wish on a few days he was back slinging bags for SWA.

The worst part is that you dont get paid for WX cancel and if you have an hour or two sit for flow you dont get paid for it. In my view if your certificate is on the line you should be getting paid for it. Your ticket is on the line from when you push back to when you block in. I feel for your friend for sure, my time there turned me into a bitter and jaded fellow. Luckily there are lots of good places hiring right now. I do whatever I can to help anyone escape that place.
