Air travel set to feel fuel pinch

i dont know what r's and kilolitres are. all these idiots on the metric system...

LOL KIDDING WE"RE THE DUMB ONES!!!

well, if you think about it.. we (U.S.) are the only ones that are not on the metric system..so whose the idiot? I'm thinking us....because it's too late to switch over and redo everything. We tried that with engineering already and because people "couldn't get it", it got scrapped after a few years...

Yea the US is too established to change, to hard to change something that makes us different then others, i guess.

I actually wonder when we changed our system, it seems the metric system has been around for ever compared to our newer verision.

i wish the dollar was still worth something.

everyone talks about the US decreasing demand. while it was proven that our demand was/(is?) MINUTELY elastic, it was only 4-5% decrease in demand when gas was well over $3/gallon back in october.

WE ALL KNOW THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET OIL PRICES BACK DOWN IS TO NUKE CHINA!!! that would drastically decrease demand and allow prices to fall back down. :sarcasm:

seriously though: supply and demand. our 5% decrease in net demand is nothing to the 30% increase in fuel prices. Prices can be high because we'll still buy it.

i have a headache from thinking. back to the sopranos and planning the attack on china. and i'm still working on getting the japs back for pearl harbor.. the baystuds.

ok, are we keeping with the aviation theme? ;)

I'd hate to have to stay awake to move more threads now...it's getting late! hahahaha :)

very well princess kristie...

so... i hear theres only one refinery in the nation pumpin out avgas?
if anyone can talk about that while aiding in the attack plans on china/japan, thatd be fantastic :sarcasm:

OH NO TONY BLEW IT!!! he was gonna get some hot realtor action and then.. and then.. NOOO

100LL is still on the excrusiating climb above Jet-A. Hope this falls because $5.00 per gallon is outrageous.

Well obviously if they are doing it we are the idiots. We see it in aviation all the time. All Canadian flying is done in meters and kilometers per hour. In fact as soon as you leave US airspace you have to change to a metric altitude and start reporting groundspeed in kilometers. Oh, wait a minute. No you don't. Never mind.

The thing with the metric system is it makes sense logically. There is none of this 12 inches equal a foot, three feet equal a yard, 5,280 feet equal a mile, 128 ounces equals a gallon, and all the other nonsense that the English system requires. Who came up with those ideas, anyway?

Nope, you've got everything being nice and easy to remember, with things based on what we like to base things on. Ten.

And I wouldn't get too carried away with the aviation measurement system there, flyover. Don't forget, the temps are in Celsius. :p

The only thing I know about Celsius is when it gets around freezing it's damned hot.

You can see why little countries like France and others felt the need to move to a universal system of measurements. It would be like all the states of the US having their own system. Besides, it helps them feel superior. You've got to throw them some bones occasionally.

As to base ten. That's OK, but I prefer the hours and minutes method. I tend to carry everything in the second column every time I hit 6, this from years of keeping paylogs and logbooks.

If you read a little deeper in some of the financial rags, it's the dollar which is the culprit.

We've squeezed the death of out the value of the dollar to jumpstart the economy that it's no longer the golden paper that capitalism is written on.

Since we're competing for oil on the world markets with other developing nations, high cost oil is more or less here to stay.
