Wasn't Valuejet big on the PFT thing? I read you had to bring a check for $10k to day one of training.

From what I understand, back in the day, that wasn't all that uncommon. For example, I know Comair used to have people pay for their training. Heck, up until this year or last year, you were more or less working for free until you passed your checkride at Pinnacle.

BTW, the Captain on Valujet 592 is not on the scab list I have.

On page 37 of the Sep 05 list
Kubeck, Candalyn C EAL 89 65790, 5/89, Capt of ValuJet 592 (Everglades Crash), DEAD.

Actually, Valujet was started by Lewis Jordan, not Joe Leonard. Leonard came to AirTran in '99, two years after the merger.

You are correct it was Jordan I was thinking of not Leonard. Nevertheless it still doesn't change the fact that Jordan, Leonard, Priddy, Kalil, and Corr were all friends and associates of Lorenzo's.

Yes, this is true. When Valujet started they required $10K from every new hire, even those who were already type rated in the DC-9!! I would have seriously considered them at the time if they did not have that requirement as I was a DC-9 captain for a small charter airline in the west. One of my co-workers, who was from Atlanta, did pay the money so that he could stop commuting. In the end, a good move on his part, as he ended up with a good finish to his career.

Airtran Is Full Of Scabs

I was in class number 3 at Valujet in 1993 and class number 1 and 2 were nothing but Eastern scabs including Candy, she was a replacement scab. Valujet/Airtran is full of scabs. Valujet continued to hire scabs for the first 2 years of operation. I have no respect for any of these pilots.

Thanks for the info jmc. Also, welcome to JC......always great having new members share their insight. :)

Now, gotta tell ya, what you did here is NECROPOSTING and it's considered bad form. You resurrected a thread that has been dead for 1.5 years. As a new user, I'm sure everyone will cut you some slack on this; but for future reference, start a new thread. ;)

Thanks Mr. Cruise for helping the users along.....thread was duly closed.... :)
