Well I am a sophomore college student studying a 5 year Business program. Im working on my PPL right now and i am thinking of either joining the Air National Guard or the Air Force Reserves....Im pretty interested in the Guard since you can get all your flight training and become an officer if you have a Bachelor's degree.

Well i was wondering if anybody was or is in the Guard or the Reserves. What do you have to do to become a Pilot in both is what id really like to know.

If anybody can share some insight or experiences that would be great too!

thanks alot guys

I'm in the Reserves and am in the process of applying for UPT. Both the Guard and Reserves will send you to UPT if you get the degree. It's not automatic, but you'll get preference over the non service guys. Your BEST bet if you wanna be a pilot in the Guard or Reserves is to get a job in the flying unit, such as being a Loadmaster (that's what I am) or a boom operator. Some units get so many applications they ONLY hire people from their unit. Generally, reserves have opportunities to fly more missions on a regular basis and can afford to hire more new guys. You'd want to get into a busy unit. I hope this answered some of your questions

Yes, BUT I have witnessed many people get out before that. They really are lax about people leaving. Now if you go to UPT, come back then ask to resign a year later, obviously they will be pissed off. They spent alot of money on you.In the reserves and guard you ust submit a package, if they like what they see then you will get called in and interviewed in front of a board of pilots. First things first, you will need to get a physical, take the AFOQT, and the BAT test. Those scores will need to be sent in with the package

There was a girl in my unit that we sent to UPT, she struggled and they decided to give her a 2nd chance, then she quit UPT and they let her leave. Reserves don't want to force anyone to be there, there's enough people that want to be there
