Air India plane crash

That word vomit showed up in another group chat in which I promptly called it “horse •” and was questioned on why I said it was, well…I said it was because it was, of course.

A friend of ours recently lost his son to a suicide. If you went online and googled the kid's name, you got several different versions of AI generated obituaries that provided all sorts of false information about him. Just foreign click-bait farms generating it based on searches I suppose.

Those losses are hard enough without that. Infuriating.

Hallucinating is a feature, not a bug, or something.

TIL the Russian POS that murdered Peter Nielsen, the Swiss air traffic controller working during the Überlingen mid-air collision, was sentenced to 8 years, got it reduced to 5 1/4 years, and was released after 3 1/2 years served. He has since remarried and continued living.

He’s now a government official in Russia and considered a hero. They even decorated him.

The guy lost his wife and kids. I’m not saying what he did is right. But I can see a man go scorched earth if he has nothing to live for anymore. Losing your wife and kids fits that scenario.

I can empathize with him. I can't excuse him. He committed pre-meditated revenge murder. He should have gotten 20 years at a minimum, IMO.

I'm sorry to hear. My wife is a child/adolescent psychologist and she lost one kiddo. It's a difficult field at times and for the parents/friends when the child wants to end it.

I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I used to work with a lot of kids. Now mainly adults and a few adolescents. This job is difficult at times, but it's also very rewarding. I've been fortunate so far. To my knowledge, I've never lost a patient to suicide.

I know of a pediatric psychiatrist who had a patient die shortly after an inpatient stay. Shocking and tragic. Some of my adult patients had their first suicide attempt in their mid-teens.

My son sees a child psychologist and she's helped him a lot. Kudos to your wife for what she does. She helps a lot of people.

I mean maybe the controller was having a hard time living with it and this was an end to his pain? Or maybe, since the guy killed him in front of his family, there will be a counter-retribution some day? Who knows what one of those kids might do......

My suspicion with our friend's son is that he was a victim of some sort of online extortion scam. There were legitimately no signs according to everyone around him, including his college roommate who found him. Was active in school and was telling everyone how much he enjoyed it, and was on a clear track for professional advancement.

Having heard some of these stories, and having been a victim myself (in a less dramatic way), this scares me to death with my own sons. I think this is behind a long of young male suicides when there isn't any other obvious cause.
