Any thoughts whether or not they get you in to an airline with lower times?

the captains i've flown with that have gone said its only worth it if you dont have someone to walk a resume in for you, as it gets you in front of thier people directly. On top of that they said its only worth it for a few airlines, airtran being the only one i can recall off the top of my head.
